2.) K.W. Jeter, S.D. Perry, Jay Lake, one other (the name escapes me, but it's whomever won the 2006 Hugo Award and the person lives in Oregon).

I really like C.S. Lewis, he's written both Sci-Fi and Fantasy. Everyone knows about the Chronicles of Narnia, but he wrote a sci-fi trilogy. The books were called Out of the Silent Planet, Perelandra, and That Hideous Strength.

i haven't read many sci-fi novels by contemporary authors, but i really enjoy the classics, like Isaac Asimov, Robert Heinlein, Norman Spinrad, etc.

when i was in elementary school or jr. high i was extremely fond of an author by the pen name of John Christopher (real name: Samuel Youd) who i believe also writes books for grown-ups, but is mostly famous for his sci-fi and sci-fi/fantasy epics for young-adults. the Tripod Trilogy (The White Mountains, The City of Gold and Lead, The Pool of Fire) was actually what turned me onto sci-fi in the first place. The Sword of the Spirits trilogy was also another amazing epic which really enthralled me as a young boy.

the only contemporary author that i've read in recent years is James Morrow. he wrote the Godhead Trilogy, which is sort of a sci-fi/fantasy/comedy about humans who find a two-mile long corpse of a bearded white male which people believe to be God. i read the first book, Towing Jehova, 2-3 years ago and i'm just starting the second book, Blameless in Abaddon, right now. i'd highly recommend the series to anyone who likes dark humor or novels that pose deep philosophical questions to the reader.

if anyone else knows of any good sci-fi books i should check out (i'm particularly fond of post-apocalyptic/adventure sagas) please let me know.

I havent read many of the latest authors work.But a while ago I read Robert Silverburg books.I really liked the 'At Winters End' series!Earth hit by meteor shower,humans go underground for ages.Then finally emerge to reclaim the earth!Great reading!
