PostThu Aug 07, 2008 5:44 pm    Stargate Universe

Aparently they're working on a third Stargate tv series entitled Stargate universe. The following information was obtained from Wikipedia:

According to Robert Cooper, Stargate Universe "maintains the spirit of Stargate, but opens up a whole new 'universe'." It is "a completely separate, third entity" as opposed to Stargate Atlantis, which was created as a spin-off from the first series Stargate SG-1. Like the first two series in the franchise, Stargate Universe will take place during the present time, not in the distant future. The show will be "set on a ship that was part of an Ancient experiment" to seed the galaxies with Stargates millions of years ago but that was prematurely ended by the Ancients' ascension. After placing Stargates throughout multiple galaxies, a second ship would follow up and explore. The basis of Stargate Universe is the ninth and final chevron, which previously unknown would serve to get to the first ship.

The pilot script for Stargate Universe was originally planned to be written by Stargate producers Brad Wright and Robert C. Cooper during the summer of 2007, making a 2008 premiere possible. The series was then pitched as "an expensive series" to the SCI FI Channel in the last quarter of 2007, and according to Wright, "the pitch was received very well". The on-going work on Stargate Atlantis and Stargate: Continuum, and the 20072008 Writers Guild of America strike however put the project on hold. As of March 2008, MGM had not been ready to comment on the series yet.

As of April 2008, the series is still in an early stage of development. If the show is picked up by a network, the most likely scenario is that writing, preproduction, and casting would occur over 2008, and filming commence no earlier than February 2009. Statements by Wright have indicated that the airing of Stargate Universe is planned after Atlantis has concluded its run. The series will have a new cast, but whether it will have familiar faces has yet to be decided.

That looks pretty cool. But does that mean it's supposed to take place in an alternate universe?

Yeah I really hope this goes through. But I want Atlantis to keep going for a while longer. I hope they don't cancel it to do Universe.

I don't think its an alternate universe. The way they worded things led me to believe it will go along with the other two series. That way they can bring in old characters as guests from time to time.

I just watched a video on scifi.com about this.

It looks kind of neat since it's gonna be totally different.

The only thing is... Lou Diamond Phillips. I mean, come on, ew

Yeah, they wanted a well known actor for the lead. They wanted to replicate what they did with Richard Dean Anderson.

I have been looking in to this, and I personally do not think it will be anywhere as big or as good as the other two series. I am not going to pass judgement to soon, I will watch the Pilot and make up my opinion whether to keep watching or not. lol

Mmmmm, I guess I might go so far as to call it good, but it didn't really grip my attention. I totally saw the whole senator thing coming.

Yeah I knew they were going to kill him as well. They had to. You can't take anything seriously if Shooter McGavin is in it.

Has anybody been watching this? To me it seems really slow paced and not having enough plot. I really liked the idea of a more character driven show, but I'm finding that I just don't really care about any of the characters that much. I think there needs to be more triumph with the characters in order for us to care about them. What does anyone else think?

I have watched at least 80% of the 1st season episodes and I can tell you it's not working out for me. I am a huge stargate fan ive watched all the shows and have all the movies but this show has too much words and not a whole lot of action.

They need to go back to what works which is the little guy gets picked on by the bigger guy and finds the way to win everytime. Thats how it was always meant to be since sg-1 came out and without it the show is boring.
