The prequels aside.
Don't you think star wars is a more complete and interesting universe than Star Trek?
I mean Star Trek is very good. But sometimes the techno-babble in Star Trek gets a bit much. More battles are massive light saber style battles just can't be beat by a phaser spurting out some light in the direction of a guy in a cheap costume or pointy ears.
Sorry, I love Star Trek, but I need more action! Oh and bring back the micro-minis!

light sabers may look cooler, but they'd be very impractical. Star Trek leans more towards hard science-fiction, whereas Star Wars is more sci-fi/fantasy.
i think George Lucas has a very vivid imagination, but Gene Roddenberry, while just as creative, is more thoughtful in his construction of the Star Trek universe.
from the philosophical premise behind the Prime Directive to the elimination of monetary currency/capitalism, Gene Roddenberry has created a fictional utopian future that is all the more realistic because he doesn't just predict technological advancements, but also projects the cultural and social progress that humanity might achieve in the same timespan.
then again, Star Wars is supposed to be set in the past and doesn't really have any cultural anchor in history. but it still lacks the subtlety and anthropological depth that Star Trek conveys.

I do like the Star Wars universe better, but not because of the movies. Lucas may have laid the groundwork, but the expanded universe is what makes Star Wars great. There are so many books that Lucas had nothing to do with that would make better movies than most of the 6. Also, the Knights of the Old Republic games were just phenomenal. The stories were just so well written. Also, Lucas destroyed Obi-Wan. He went from being the coolest Jedi in episode I and IV to being a corney character with way too many sterotypical 'good guy' one-liners.

okay i am on the side of star trek and i am goign to awnser this very simple there would be no star wars if it wasn't for star trek you know who said that?
george lucas
"Lucas considers himself a "Trekkie" and has cited Star Trek as his inspiration for working with sci fi."
though he does find hypotetical wars distastefull
and also look at the star trek ship classes compared to the star wras ones there is like only 200......on wookieepedia (star wars wiki) there are more federation classes then that alone.... plus star wars can amgicly make ships out of no were and some how can sustain them self thru a galactic civil war (go figure) star trek can't jsut make ships out of thin air like star wars
star trek goes in depth in the economy and the battle are more realistic instead of 4000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000
vs 400000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000
(okay exageration) but you get the point

Like apples and oranges I dont believe Star Trek and Star Wars can be compared. They are two totally different personalities and appeal to two polar opposites as well. Star Trek doesnt just explore the galaxy it explores the human condition as it goes. Star Trek is about pushing the limits and exceeding boundaries. Star Wars is about rebellion against oppression in all its forms. Star Trek is also pure sci-fi while Star Wars is a blend of sci-fi and fantasy, the formula that made Dune and Masters of the Universe so popular. And my New Frontier series come to think of it.
So we can like either or both but we like one better than the other. That is a telltale sign of our inherent personality. Hi, Im Aaelan Arneaud, published author and screenwriter, and Trek fan all my life. Ive been a major contributor to Paramount Pictures spec script and internship program for three of the Star Trek series, also to poetry.com and now Im on Facebook and Myspace. Please go to my website to check out my New Frontier series for free,
