PostTue Feb 26, 2008 4:36 am    The X-Files 2 movie

What do you guys think of the new movie that is going to be coming out this summer? It's going to be a standalone movie that doesn't have to do with the alien story arc. I was at WonderCon in San Francisco and was at the panel for it with Chris Carter, Gillian Anderson, and David Duchovny. They showed the first teaser trailer for us. It was awesome! I am very excited for the movie. Any other fans feel the same way or are some people skeptical?

I'm an x-files fan but this is the first I've heard of it. Is it going to come out in theatres or strait to dvd?

I am exciiiiiiiited. Woohoo. I just hope Gillian Anderson's hair is red and not that scary blonde she has now.

Yes, I'm looking forward to it as well! I heart the X-Files and I'm glad they decided against using the mythology in the movie. That's what drove the show into the ground, ultimately, so hopefully it'll be a better movie for not trying to involve all that. Just need to work my way through the entire series again before it's released. Almost done with season four,

Oh it's going to be playing in theaters. Big theater release just like the first movie. They just started production in December. It's due to come out July 25 this year.

And to answer IntrepidIsMe, her hair was red at WonderCon and it looks red in the movie which is good.

I want to also try and rewatch the series Thomas, I'm going through season 3 right now. I don't think the alien mythology ruined the series. The problem was the plot got way too convoluted after season 6 and it shouldn't have gone on as long as it did. It should have ended after Mulder left.

Yeah, that's what I meant, really. They didn't resolve anything... they just kept adding more and more stuff to it until even the writers didn't know what was going on anymore. Although at one point the mythology really made the series what it was, it got way too convoluted, like you said. I'm just glad they're going for a nice X-Files story... and I'm sure it'll have a great plot as it's gonna be a movie and not "just another episode."

They don't look that old. And we can see they're still young enough to do a lot of running about, which is the main thing. I'm just worried I won't be able to take Billy Connolly's acting seriously.

I guess it was passable in The Last Samurai... maybe, Actually, if I watched it again, I probably wouldn't be of that opinion. It has been about five years since that came out.

I look forward to this one, the title is, IMO quote appropriate.

That quote was hanging on a wall in Mulder's office for the entire series run, I think it's slightly cheesy really, but maybe I'll learn to love it.

The title of the movie, could perhaps relate to a series of events or the plot that happens. For now though, it being related to the poster? Perhaps it is silly, perhaps it's some sort of underlying message within the myths of X-Files, despite it being a stand alone movie.

Perhaps. I'm eager to see what this movie will have to offer. Seems promising enough.

So... this wasn't that good.

First off, did Doggett and Reyes just drop off the face of the planet? Sure their characters weren't all that interesting, but jeez.

And then, Ford much? Come on.

I really liked it, But then again, I found myself just being happy to see Mulder and Scully back together, so I was probably more than a little blinded by that. It was kind of odd that Doggett and Reyes were just dropped. I suppose we have to assume that after "The Truth", the X-Files were closed and either they were working elsewhere in the FBI or had left it altogether, else they would've been called in as the experts in lieu of Mulder and Scully. I didn't really notice the Ford overkill though. I'm not very good with cars. I didn't see the post-credits scene,

I didn't either. I only know one other person who is willing to watch credits with me. Silly people.

I guess I was expecting it to be more about the X-Files than about Mulder and Scully. I feel like it only drew people who really really liked the show, whereas it could have drawn a larger audience if it was scarier/more story based than character based. They also did a poor job of advertising it (here at least). The only way you really even knew it existed was if you were a fan.

Yeah, I see what you mean about the characters. The movie was very much about their personal struggles, although I think that was the whole point of bringing them back after five years. So I forgive them. It's a shame the film hasn't performed better, though. Maybe you're right that they could've drawn a greater audience if they'd given it a wider appeal. As for advertising, I was actually surprised to see trailers for it on TV over here.

I nearly remained to see if there was an extra scene, but decided to follow my Dad, who was also my ride . I know what you mean though, when they were in the building, I half expected to hear "What the hell are you two doing here?" With the camera revealing Skinner/Dogget/Reys or something, maybe in the next movie, who knows.

Aside from a couple things I had noticed, I thought the movie was pretty good, seeing something of a struggle for those involved after supposedly moving on (the pencil gag was funny, though) since the series end.

Interesting note, I learned why the female agent Mulder watched walking by was such a big deal, its the same actress that played his sister in the series.
