PostWed Nov 28, 2007 11:06 am    STV ain't very busy these days...

I've noticed how slow business is here lately, hardly anybody online, like...ever.

From my Admin days on smaller phpbb forums, I remember a quaint little thingy for admins to use to send an e-mail to all the boards users at once. Maybe that would help bring people back to STV?

Just a suggestion.

Also, I think a lot of people would like to see new skins for the site and perhaps new/different forums.

Unfortunately, you're right. The site is a bit old and there's no "Star Trek" presence in any form to get new users here.

[sarcasm]There's the new movie comming out! [/sarcasm]
I have my doubts that going back to where it all began may not be the best way to rejuvinate the series... too many cannon crossfires to worry about... but Blancie has a point... this site is sharply Trek biased, and for the first time in almost 50 years, Star Trek is LOSING popularity because it is off the air.

I think the "Powers that be" are trying so hard to keep the Star Trek idea pure, that they are not changing with the times. At this rate, real life will pass the Star Trek sci-fi world. Soon they'll be looking out the window for new ideas.

I recommend we make a topic on this and sticky it.

Almost everytime I come to the site, someone else has made a topic commenting on the lack of activity around here.

I agree with you fully. This should be made a sticky topic.

High School, Oh the glory days. No worries, talk until 4am on STV.com, pop a microwavable cheeseburger in the microwave, and chat it up. Where did all the fun go to

I think it was a combination of things. Personally? I think the down time (all 10000 of them ) hurt the site badly. Only the most loyal kept checking to see if the site ever came back. Then combine that with school (heavier work loads for people entering college) and work. Then you have the reasons.

It's a shame, b/c this site was absolutely wonderful.

Yeah, it was definitely the downtime, when I had that for my personal site, I lost about...oh, ten members sounds like a good estimate. I've even sent emails on the restoration, but no luck. Downtime, especially if it happens often, can mean the end of a website, or at least the end of it's popularity.

Just wondering but has the Admins ever thought about sending out a board email to everyone registered that the site is up and working and kinda dead to the world?
