PostTue Mar 11, 2008 6:34 am    Keyboard Buttons

I had a lot of malware on my computer and the only way i could get rid of it properly is to re-install windows XP. However when i did this my keyboard buttons changed. e.g the @ button now comes up with a " and the other way round.

Does anyone know how to fix this? I know its probably something silly like my keyboard is set to american rather than english but im not sure how to do it!

Go to your control panel and check out your language settings, probs something in there that's not right!

Either that or, this has been ocassionally known to happen:

either: A) You are using a laptop, which ocassionally has a "FN LOCK" button, or something similar, which due to the compact form, allows access to normally unaccessable buttons, in rude, annoying, or sadistic, and very illogical manners((My laptop is prone to this.))
or
B) You are using a fancy dancy internet keyboard, which Windows, being a rather unintelligent recognition system, is using generic drivers for, in which case you either need to dig up a driver disk, or find it online... which could be annoying if the . keeps showing up as a ?, lol

My first reaction would be to ensure your settings were correct (although I find myself confused as to what you mean by American and English, but meh) and like Squiggy said, check the drivers. There could have been a problem in the reinstall of XP.

If your keyboard symbols change, hold left cntrl and left shift at the same time, do this once and it will change back.

you probably did it accidentally without noticing.

That's what happens when a GB keyboard is set to American. It's in your regional settings, as someone has previously posted.

nah, settings would alter the letters as well. If the letters aren't changed but just the sympbols, use my trick.

you should all try it, its quite comical.

It doesn't change the letters.
