There are too many opinions here to respond to, however people, please take the time to spell the names of the characters you are talking about, CORRECTLY. Jish.... and if you think Neelix is Neezle, well, maybee your not really a fan of the show

I hear Kes left because the production staff were unsure of how to handle her accelerated aging.
Kes was fine as a character. She struck some fans as uninteresting because of her gentle nature. The heart of drama is conflict, which is why Seven was so interesting. But not everyone on a starship needs to be bossy and antagonistic. A sweet, agreeable crew member who leads with her heart was a nice addition.
However, in the first season, it looked to me like she wore a wig! Really bad hair. Also, those ears were awful! Give her simple, Vulcan ears rather than the bulging, tumorous ones she had.
No reason both Kes and Seven couldn't have been on the ship at the same time. Their differing natures would have provided an interesting contrast. As Kes grew older, she would have grown wiser, and probably would have helped Seven learn about being an individual.
She would have married a crew member, had a child (which would been an adult by season seven), and died peacefully of old age shortly before Endgame. One of ST's big themes is life passages through time. The producers missed that one with Kes....

IMO the should have got rid of THE DOCTOR and NEELIX and KEPT Kes.
BOTH these characters developed into quite simply the most IRRITATING in the history of Star Trek!

I didn't like neelix or kes, but keep the doctor. He added something different to the show.

I think Kes was a very complex character and was probably hard to write for, and I think the only good thing she did was leave the show.

It was a good move to get rid of Kes. Seven had much better stories and potential. Kes was boring and dull, and had the voice of an 80 year old chain smoker.

The show did not have the budget to keep on 10 main characters. Kes had been testing as one of the least popular characters and since she only had a three year contract they simply did not renew it when it was up.
I do think it might have been interesting to keep her on board and show her going through her whole life span. The 9 year lifespan was the only thing unique and interesting about her.
