PostWed Feb 13, 2008 3:42 pm    My special link with Voyager

While there's so much going on around here about Voyager, and i'd love to put my 2 cents into everything, i have to start off with a personal statement about the show that changed my life.

It may sound ridiculous or even odd, but I truely feel like the past 2 years of my life is paralel to Voyager's 7 year journy home, and to that of Capt. Kathryn Janeway.

Voyager left deep space 9 very much secure and ready for their journy into space. Voyager is an intrepid class starship. small, low armed, however resilliant, extremely fast (warp 9.75) and technologically advanced.

I too felt the same way 2 years ago, when I was still living at home, felt very much secured and ready to go out into the world.

Voyager was hijecked away. 70,000 light years away from home. it was very suddon, and un expected.

I too had to leave home 2 years ago since i felt urged to find my own apartment. all of it happend in 3 days, and suddenly i found myself "stranded" far away from home.

Voyager found itself in a hostile enviroment, wild and savaged, and unequipped to properly deal with new and unknown surroundings.

I moved into the apartment from hell ("year of hell"), so loud and so tiny. i suffored extremely and could barely cope.

still, in its first 3 seasons, Voyager coped with unbearable challanges. they barely survived and could not florish. Captain Janeway evolved from making purely "Star fleet" decisions into making more realistic delta quadrent desicions. the suffored terrible threats such as the Phage, the Vedians, The Kazon and the Borg, and at the end of season 3-beginning of season 4 , seven of nine came along. Voyager enchanced their shielding, erracted the astrometrics lab and enchanced their warp engines.
the trip home was cut by 20,000 light years.

I had a horrible time in the first year. i was on "survival mode" only. i had to change my patterns of thinking into survival and sank into terrible anxiety, anxiety attacks and depression. only when i began to seek medical help, worked on my emotionall barrier, moved into a somewhat larger and quieter apartment i began to recoperate and evolve.

Voyager kept fighting the Borg, but moreover, they learned the most about the Borg then any other star fleet encounters. they adapted to the new borg threates, studied them, and eventually out smarted them.

I started i new position at work in the mids of all of this, and i had a horrible new boss. she was unexpected, almost evil at times, sophisticated and very hard to deal with. in the time of 18 months i had learned to out smart her, deal with hear, and evenually became freinds with her.

in the last 2 years of Voyager's journy, they were able to re-establish connections with Star fleet, which made them feel closer to home (like when Janeway says ("She's (Kes) thrown us safely out of borg space, 10,000 light years away, 15 years closer to home). they exchanged letters and information.

in the past 4 months i began reestablishing my bond with home.

At the end, Voyager makes an amazing journy back to earth, and we see all the crue-members's conflicts and thoughts about the return, and how each and every one of them has a different point of view.
at the end, harry kim follows capt. janewat to the latter, and he says "you tought me it's the journy that counts".

I will move back home in 3 weeks, though i feel it's the journy that matterd. I have evolved in the past 2 years as it would be 75,000 light years from 2 years ago.
Captain Janeway led the crew with unmatchable grace, charizma, determenation, drama and elegance.
She suffored from crisis of faith, believe, depression, anxiety and mostly fear. she's human. Picard was too obsessive, compulsive, arrogant, and don't get me started on the DS-9 captain, who's name i preferred to forget. that captain archer? what a macho dumb guy.
Captain Mulgrew is a "mench". she made me cry so many times on so many dark nights i though ill never pull through till tommorow. she's a leader. she's an advanced person.

Often while speaking about Voyager with freinds and surroundings, knoboy really get it. you know? really gets it. they prefer talking about american idol or "who want's to be a super-something". that's fine, but, it's not really it.

I know this may sound so lame, but just look at Star Trek's 24th century for the human race.
No borders.no money. no poverty. no fammon. everyone working twards one single goal, incuding a multitude of races, to better themself and for exploration.
the human species has evolved to a certain point where fighting is only taken place for what really counts. freedom, liberty and individuallism.

I often think of myelf as someone who should have born in that 24th century. i was born in the wrong era, as i am too advanced for my time. I cannot stand stupidity, backwardness and supression.

Star Trek Voyager and Kate Mulgrew has changed my life and shaped me to what I am today,
And i'm damm proud of it too.
Dismissed.
