PostSat Jul 01, 2006 7:39 pm    Story Arcs (Best/Worst/Weirdest)

I want to know...For each of the ST shows...Which story arc (two-parter, three-parter, etc.) is the weakest/most out of place?

Well...These are my thoughts...

Weirdest/Out Of Place

TOS - There was only one (The Menagerie).

TNG - Gambit - I thought that this was an odd choice for a two-parter....

DS9 - I thought that all of them were great and none of them were out of place. However, if I have to give you one, I would say that Past Tense was the most out of place. Although, Past Tense is probably my favorite ST episode(s) ever!

VOY - This one's easy. Workforce. I'm I the only one that thought that this was a weird two parter for Season 7?

ENT - In A Mirror, Darkly. A great episode(s), but, I thought that it was out of place, being one of the last episodes of the series.

Worst

TOS - N/A

TNG - Gambit. Didn't need to be a two-parter

DS9 - I don't think that any of them were bad.

VOY - Endgame. In the immortal words of Comic Book Guy, worst ending ever.

ENT - I dunno....

Best

TOS - N/A

TNG - The Best of Both Worlds

DS9 - Past Tense

VOY - Year of Hell

ENT - I dunno...

What are your choices?

Sorry...I got it confused with another MU episode (Through the Looking Glass - DS9). A great ep., though. One of the few ENT episode(s) I've seen.

I just thought that it was an out-of-place episode. Not a bad one.

TNG

Best story arc - Best Of Both Worlds + Family, with Redemption a close second.

Worst story arc - Can't think of one but there were some that they did not do enough with such as Chain of Command and Descent.

Weirdest/Out Of Place - The Professor Moriarty arc , what was going on there?

DS9

Best story arc - Tie between the Obsidian Order/Tal Shiar attack on the founders and the arc with Garak and Worf rescuing Martok and Bashir.

Worst story arc - Maybe the pilot episodes (Emissary) but hey you can't be perfect all the time.

Weirdest/ Out of place - The mirror arcs, while good stand alone episodes I still do not know what point they had.

VOYAGER

Best story arc - I know it is not a double episode but I think the Q arc which began in Death Wish where Q says Quinns death will have an effect on the entire universe was well handled in The Q and The Grey.

Worst story arc - Not truly an arc but a theme all through the series, was Janeways consistent pushing of human values and ideals onto seven. I almost can not watch those episodes where Janeway says that human ideals and starfleet ideals are the most honorable in the universe, or something to that effect, actually on more than one occasion seven points out the flaws of humanity's great values e.g when the doctors matrix starts to destabilize and Janeway just tries to eliminate the cause, just because he is more closely related to a replicator than any biological lifeform, as Picard says we are exploring for new lifeforms, well there it sits.

Weirdest story arc - Year Of Hell. Do not get me wrong they are two good solid episodes but after watching them the crew ends up in the same position they were when they started, as the Homer would say d'OH.

ENTERPRISE

Best story arc - I know alot of fans do not like the alien Nazis time traveling episodes but I find it to be a quality piece with a good story.

Worst story arc - I do not think this series had a bad story arc the Vulcan arc was good, the Klingon arc started in the pilot was good and the friendship arc between Archer and the Andorian captain was okay. I would probably say the mirror universe arc was the worst.

TNG

Best: The Best of Both Worlds, Q Who?, Ensign Ro, Rascals, Chain of Command, Premptive Strike

Weirdest/Out of Place: Half A Life, Imaginary Friend, Frame of Mind

Worst: The Game, Power Play, Ship In A Bottle

Voyager

Best: Caretaker, Scorpion, The Killing Game, Year of Hell, Death Wish

Weirdest/Out of Place: The Thaw (both one of the weirdest and the worst), Real Life, Concerning Flight

Worst: The Thaw, Endgame (only because they only showed them heading towards earth! I wanted to see episodes with them being on earth after having returned home!), Alter Ego, Demon

Do they have to be 2 parters?

Uh I just put the title of the 2 parter episodes not parts 1 and 2 because it's like all one episode, just longer than an hour.

This is the best (non-kirk):
