|
If there's another topic like this then you can lock this.
The first officer that I would love to throw over board off a star ship is Commander Chakotay... Janeway should have just did that when she finally got him on Voyager.... lol yes I got wise.... I'm no more chakotay fan...
so what officer would you throw over?

Everyone has their moments of being annoying....
Spock: Wonderful character, great to watch him grow, however this same trait got annoying... he always allowed his logic to overpower his humanity.
Riker: Riker was a strong character with many great qualities, however his downfall was his stubborn side.
Kira: She was a complex character with many wonderful sides that caused her to be very down to earth (or Bajor) However, she did have a stubborn temper and was quick to pick a fight.
Chakotay: He was more of a leader than anything, Janeway looked to him for help with every aspect of the ship, however his choice in woman was horrid.
TPol: A wonderfully atypical Vulcan on many levels, added a great perspective on the crew but basically a female rehash of Spock, I hated that.
Now if I had to Pick a character to throw out of an airlock.
Wesley Crusher.

lol, Debra, I'm the complete opposite of you. I thought Chakotay should have taken his chance in "Equinox" to declare Janeway unfit when she almost let the alien eat the guy. Then from there, either shoot her to get to the poor guy or stick her in the brig the rest of the journey and take command!
I thought Kira could be annoying from time to time to be honest. She was far to subjective to be in a command position. Let her personal feelings override her command decisions.

I agree with you Valathous, I think Chakotay was agreat character especially in situations where most first officers would not have taken that option.
Situations like punching the Maquis who were giving Tuvok a hard time in Learning Curves because thats the way we do it in the Maquis.
Also I liked the speech that Chakotay gave Janeway when they were stranded he handled that specific situation very well.
And I think he showed true Starfleet ideals when questioning Janeway's pursuit of the Equinox.
Besides he could always be used as the negotiator with the Borg.
There are several characters I would shove off into the unkown and Miles O'Brien would be top of the list.
But I think if he had not been absorbed by the Vger probe then Commander Decker would be the logical choice.

T'Pol was first officer of ENT? I thought she was only an observer. I guess my ENT knowledge is rusty...
If I had to pick, it'd probably be Riker. That horny toad was more concerned with the newest lady then keeping the ENT-D safe.

Chakotay just because to me he made too many mistakes. Didn't make him bad but out of all the others, I'd have to pick him. How was Kira annoying though? She was a tough ass woman! I like Riker...though yeah he did like to flirt a lot. But I don't think that made him a bad First Officer.

Kira. That hot-blooded temper has got to go.
Don't know why so many dislike Chakotay. Who wouldn't want to trip out and meet their animal guide? Too cool!

Tough choice. Like someone said, each first officer had their ups-and-downs. Well, most of 'em did. Just not Kira.
Spock was probably the only Vulcan character that didn't irritate the hell out of me, so, I'll spare him the fate of his 'superior' Vulcan lungs exploding in space. Still, his Vulcan logic could get annoying at times.
Riker was, I felt, a bland character. He was like this twisted version of Kirk, minus the coolness. Always spending time with the ladies and too much of a poster boy for Starfleet.
Kira was the best first officer, hands down. Ain't no way she's floatin' in space. In regards to her being 'emotional', let's take into consideration that she had just survived a fifty-year occupation of her homeworld (although, she wasn't around for all of it), watched her father die, saw her mother taken away to be Dukat's woman, etc., etc., etc. I think it'd be kinda hard to find a Bajoran at this time who wasn't emotional. Not to mention, I like to consider DS9 more of a Bajoran station than a Federation one, so... yeah. Besides, I feel Kira was the first officer who did the most for her respective series. What did Riker or Chakotay really do aside from give their captains support? Nada. Kira's the one who got out there and got things done.
Moving on from my rant about Kira, let's move on to Chakotay. Wuuuuuussssssssssss. What's wrong with you Chakotay? You could've been so much better. Why didn't you stand up for your peeps, huh? Where's that fiery Maquis temperance? It only took you like, what, three episodes for the Queen of Mean to break you and make you her little yes man. Ugh.
Lastly, there's T'Pol. Sorry T'Pol, but, unlike Spock, you annoyed me. A lot. Sorry to say it, but, if Chakotay wasn't on this list, it'd be your (attractive) butt I'd be tossing out the nearest airlock. Your only saving grace is that, unlike Tattoo Boy, you're of the pretty variety.
Anyways, to sum it up, I'd go with Chakotay. He was a decent character, but he wasn't nearly the character he should have been.

[*-nightwolf version]
*Kira: I don't like the federation snooping around in bajor's affairs, and i don't like the thought of the federation being on this station. When i was a little girl, we never...
*Sisko: OUT!!!!! Pack your bags and get off the station!!!!! I don't care about your bajor life and your arrogant attitude!!
----------------------
Never did like kira as a first officer,it was always about what kira wanted and never by federation guidelines.Anything she didn't like it was either debating it with odo,or disrespecting sisko's orders, or going to the admirals in starfleet over sisko's head to appeal it, or taking matters in her own hands to get what she wanted.
Never did like her as first officer on DS9!! I felt there should have been a better bajoran to cover the role like leeta

While I'd agree in some cases about Kira, my first response would be Chakotay for letting Janeway do the crap she did. Then again, each time he protested, he ended up confined to Quarters, so... Anyways, to stay on topic, Chakotay.

Janeway did nothing like stuff. In my view she was the best captain in starfleet. Chakotay was stupid because he wasn't starfleet. Boom there you have it. He has a reason. And I think his tattoo didn't help.

Well, aside from the fact this topic wasn't meant to go into Janeway as it's about First Officers. I'll go ahead and mention the fact that through the series, he has been relived of duty for the fact his actions, or opinions differed then hers. In Scorpion, Part II she was quite upset with the fact that he didn't turn the ship around. She went on about how he should keep the alliance going for as long as possible, by the end... In Equinox, Part II Janeway nearly allowed someone to die simply because he wouldn't give her the answers she wanted. When he prevented the officers death, and told her she went across the lines she had been always adamant of not crossing, she relieved him of duty. That was just a couple examples, really.
Any ways the other first officers I could find some reason to like, Spock, and T'Pol were awesome because both had a struggle to endure. T'Pol served as FO on an Earth ship before the crews became mixed species, and was often shown to be ready to side with them, despite being against the "norm" Spock was Human and Vulcan and had to deal with his inner conflicts and those around him. T'Pol had to try and provide logic to a crew of Humans. Spock had to deal with his Humanity fighting against his logic.
Riker did play around a bit but he was ready to fight if he had to. He was ready to take command when he needed, and out of loyalty to Picard, and the rest of the Enterprise crew, he stayed on board despite repeated offers for a promotion to Captain.
In Kira's defense, some of the actions people are complaining about, was due to outside influence. I can see where she was coming from in the pilot, and some of the earlier episodes, even if I don't like her comments or all of her actions. Definitely, she is a good officer, and was ready to side with Sisko, even though it meant trouble for her on many occasions.
