In the one where kes grew back in time he called himself doctor Van Gogh (sp?), I don't know though, I've just started watching voyager now that its on TV again. As far a I know he doesn't give himself a name.

In the first Voyager pocket books he was called Dr.Zimmerman. According to the book "Voyages Of Imagination", written by Jeff Ayers, the original scripts for the show named him as DR.Zimmerman but for some reason they never used that when the series began.

he also called himself DR. Schweitzer in "Heroes And Demons" and Denara Pel named him Shmullus in "Lifesigns". But he never used those names for any longer time.

Yes, in End Game it was revealed that the Doctor finally decided to settle with Joe. Tom Paris made a remark saying "After all this time trying to think of the perfect name to suit you, you pick Joe?!"

Paris: It took you 33 years to come up with Joe
Doc: Well, it was Lana's grandfather's name.
Paris: Oh, so you're not a...
Lana: A Hologram? No.

I liked that part of the episode. It was funny.

what a minute -

did the doctor un-hologram himself?

Or is he just going to exist forever with the name Joe?

(I just got into voyager since the spike tv started showing them... i LOVE it, but haven't had the chance to see all the episodes.... at $150 per season that won't be happening anytime soon either)

That future no longer exists when Admiral Janeway dies

I think Valathous knows that. He was just pointing out instances where the Doctor was named.

In the end, he never really got an official name, save for alternate time lines. That's it.

he's had a couple of names through out the show. But none of them ever stuck, they've only lasted an episode each and then after that they come up with some excuse for him not to use it ever again.

How awkward it must have been for Captain Picard to have to address Janeway as Admiral after she had been out of touch for 7 years, especially after JLP had saved the universe (indeed, human existence itself) how many times?

In the first part of Endgame, the Doctor has a name, but since Voyager gets back BEFORE that first part of Endgame ever happens and thus erases that future, doesn't that mean that the Doctor never gets a name?

i think the doc never really gets a name since the future of Endgame dosnt exist he dabbles with many names but cant decide on one he may get one later (he does have the rest of time to find one) but as for VOY he never really has a name

PostSun Sep 16, 2007 11:50 am    Shmouless

Although he never chose a name for himself in the time line of the series, his Vidiian Dr friend Danara Pal named him Shmoules after her uncle and always called him by that name even in other episodes: "Lifesign" & "Resolutions" .
