Wed Nov 07, 2007 3:47 am Dog The Bounty Hunter says racial slur |

Reuters wrote: | NEW YORK, Nov 2 (Reuters) - A reality TV show starring celebrity bounty hunter Duane "Dog" Chapman was pulled from the air indefinitely on Friday, two days after a private phone conversation in which he used a racial slur was posted online.
Cable channel A&E suspended production of the fifth series of Chapman's popular show, "Dog the Bounty Hunter," as the phone call was made public on Wednesday, but on Friday the network went a step further.
"In evaluating the circumstances of the last few days, A&E has decided to take 'Dog The Bounty Hunter' off the network's schedule for the foreseeable future," an A&E spokesman said.
"We hope that Mr. Chapman continues the healing process that he has begun."
He said no decision had been made to cancel the program, which is shown in more than 10 countries, and the network will review the situation again in a couple of weeks.
Honolulu-based Chapman, 54, who says he is a devout Christian, has apologized for using the epithet "black person" to describe a black woman being dated by his son, Tucker, and vowed to do whatever he can to repair the damage.
Chapman's lawyer was quoted in various media reports on Friday as saying that the conversation posted on The National Enquirer tabloid's Web site had been leaked by Tucker Chapman -- one of the crime-fighter's 12 children.
Chapman, a burly ex-con with long blond hair and leather wardrobe, rose to fame after his 2003 tracking and capture of Max Factor heir and serial rapist Andrew Luster in Mexico. Continued...Media attention over that case led to an offer for a reality TV show tracking Chapman and his "posse" as they chase down people who skip bail and fail to show up in court.
He is the latest in a string of U.S. celebrities to end up in trouble for using offensive language.
Michael Richards, co-star of the TV series "Seinfeld," sparked an outcry in late 2006 when he spewed a torrent of racial slurs at hecklers at a comedy club. He later apologized, saying he lost his temper.
American shock jock Don Imus was fired by CBS Radio in April for on-air referring to a mostly black university women's basketball team as "nappy-headed hos." He signed a new deal this week with Citadel Broadcasting Corp to return to the air |

I apologize I meant to quote the whole news,..... when i edit it , it wouldnt do... i dont know what i did wrong.
ummmm if he says he is a christian then why he would even say the N word? I know nobody's perfect and all. But, he ought to know the phone conversation was probably being recorded....? I liked the way he got criminals and all. But this , he let me down. I never liked that he says he is a christian, curses and then prays. ummm never liked that part of him.
I am not judging , I just don't think I will watch him again if he comes back on the air. I never thought he was a racist

Just recently he was quoted as saying that. He thought it was ok for him to use the N word because he thought he was black enough to use it. I will look for an article that puts it in writing. The above quote came from the T&A morning show. So it may not be entirely accurate.

I wish people would lay off him! Firstly that was a private phone call so he's every right to say whatever he wants.
Secondly call me crazy but dont the majority of black people say "the N word" anyway? so why is it wrong for a white guy to use it? Chris Rock has said "the N word" Many many times and not been pulled off the akir for it....
Damn skippy this sure is pretty stupid!

Lay off of him? He ought to know that his phone calls would be recorded cause he is a celebrity of some sorts. He shouldn't even said the word. Plus it is wrong to say the n word no matter if you are white or black. chris rock shouldn't even be saying it.
I won't even be watching Dog anymore... I never thought he would be a racist. him of all people.

so your letting 1 word negate the fact that this guy captured a known rapist off his own back. If anything people SHOULD be laying off him he's done a lot of good..dont let the fact that he said one little word put you off heck words cant hurt anyone because they're only words

Still have not found a link that directly backs up my earlier post. Ah well.

So his status negates his right to privacy? If anything the one that taped the conversation without consent should be held accountable. I would imagine that their terminating his show is illegal because of the method used to acquire the information, but Law is a weak suit of mine so I am not sure.

Using the word when upset does not make that person a racist. I am sure that in the past, just about everyone has used a derogatory term when they were upset at one time or another. But doing so does not make you a racist.
Note: I am not saying that what he did is right, I am only offering a different perspective on things.

I get upset sometimes, but I don't say the N word no matter how mad I get.
I know he wants his privacy, and I agree he should have it. I should have gotten my words not mixed up again. But what I am saying him being a star he should be more careful. He puts the bad guys away and help people. He needs to watch what he says though. People that look up to him, aren't going to anymore. I am not saying he shouldn't have privacy. But he ought to know people will be listening in these days. The world has gone nuts. We can argue and debate this til we are blue in the face... lets agree to disagree lol.... i just don't look up to him anymore and i have that right.

I hear ya. But any derogatory word is just as bad as that evil N word .
And I agree that he needs to be careful with what he says. But we are all human, and will make mistakes. Just please do not chastise him for one word over all he has done.

You guys should really watch the extensive interview Dog had with Sean Hannity. I found it pretty powerful. He's truly sorry and upset and not a racist. I think, especially since it was in private conversation, that he should get his job back, and I believe he needs to be forgiven. What he did was wrong, but he is working to atone for his sin.

I am sure it did. There are a lot of people up in arms about this. It will all work out in the end.
Now the woman he directed the N word to is going to try to sue him.

She'll lose, as it was a private conversation that was recorded without Dog's consent, and to be honest, I hope she does.

I am sure that if it were to go to court that she would loose. But would Dog let it go that far before settling? He already has enough bad press. I am sure he will settle out of court in order to come off as the good guy.
