Another thing might be people you know becoming inactive. I know that was one of the main reasons I stopped posting for a while. I'm still finding it hard to get back into the mainstream, since I don't think a whole lot of people really know me.

What about creating an actual site for star trek voyager. it could be filled with information about star trek past and present. it could have different sections devoted to special era's and all that. this way it could be more like a site and draw even more attention from people wanting more information ofcourse their would have to be a special team that worked on it so that not everyone could just add whatever whenever. could even have a monthly newsletter involving stuff that happen on the forums. like with the RPg's and such.

thats a good idea, but
Who would get the info?, make the layout?, update the site? write the newsletter? make the grapics? promo it? create the mailing list?
you get the idea

Yes i get the idea. thats why you would open up the positions to The Members. create a special team dedicate to the creation of the site. People would have to fill out an application to apply for the position and you'd have a special team (one of the moderator groups) who decide on who would be the best qualified based on qualifications. It isn't that hard really f you know what your doing and how to do it.

The Internet is already saturated with sites about star trek. I think the site needs to move towards a more general theme rather than focus on star trek. Which is by no means that popular anymore.

I tend to agree with the lower section of this quote. any new site should be based on general set of forums that include real life sections besides ones for sci fi and the like. I've just come accross a site called ForumGarden.com.

I'm not sure if we should dump the Star Trek part as a whole... It is still popular amongst fans, but as a whole it has died a bit. Perhaps expanding this beyond VOY?
I don't know. There is no real easy answer to it, I guess.

The simple answer, I suppose, is Jeanna's answer.
Market it a little more.
If we change it, we will attract new, and lose old members
If we DON'T change it we may attract new, and may lost old members.
The real trick is to just get more people comming to the site through banners, ads, etc.

I agree. Many things have virtually been "talked out". This site wasn't around back when TNG and DS9 were on, and it came very near the end of VOY, so there wasn't ample time to build a big core base like other sites. Not to mention most of STV's members were merely children when they joined. |
I agree. BTW, the site wasn't put up until *after* VOY ended even though I had the domain for the last year of VOY. I just didn't have the experience to put a site up until after the series ended. Very unfortunate and regretful.
Since the Star Trek franchise is at an all time low, maybe we should stream like the Trek sections of the forum and make the site more sci-fi? What do you guys think?

Honestly, I don't think it's going to change anything for the better, making it general sci-fi. Not one bit. Plus, I don't know about anyone else here, but STV as a Trek site has some real sentimental value for me. Then again, I can't remember the last time I posted here, so I don't know.

I'm not exactly sure if I like the idea of changing the nature of the site from it's original intent. Though, I could see us attempting to 'renovate' to add more to please a larger populous of sci-fi fans.
Things I could see happening
Merge TOS/TNG to a single forum
Merge DS9/VOY to a single forum
Add Stargate SG-1/Atlantis forum
Add Battlestar Galactic forum
Things like that. Not drastic changes, but perhaps enough to bring in a few more people.

You know, it really wouldn't be a bad idea to add a SG-1/Atlantis forum. I'd have to say it's probably as popular on the forums as Star Trek is.

I'm still around. Just more lurking than any actual signs of being alive. I'm not much for chatting about shows; I might contribute to one or two topics, but I really enjoyed the roleplaying. Unfortunately, I don't have the time to devote to that anymore.

well I say if we could get people or M could get time,
revamp the site on a whole and get geared toward that Sci-fi look as was said earlier:
upgrade from PHPBB 2.0 to 3.0 (when they make a stable release)
move all the ST related forums into 1 forum, change forums like Star Trek books to Sci-Fi books
change the catagory names from like the bridge to Sci-Fi channel or something creative.
Graphics: new Sci-Fi geared logo, maybe SG1, ST, ect
Update the avatar database with Sci-fi ones
the comm. badges changed to something creativer
the post reply, and new topic buttons
maybe even get a new domain name to match the site? STV.com could just forward there, and just have the datamoved to the site
or even get the domain forward the domain to STV.com and mask the domain so while the user is at STV.com the domain would read in the URL bar as the new domain?
these are somethings to think about changing within the site itself
I am personally willing to donate hosting services to STV.com as I have had more uptime than STV's server seems to have had in the last year or so.
maybe if people could donate time/services we could do some of the things here, like anyone good with grapichs?

As others have said, I think the site's lack of activity is due to nothing really going on with the ST franchise. Yes, there is the new movie and ST: Online, but both are pretty under wraps. When we find more and if both are a success, there maybe a resurgence in Trek.

I really wouldn't mind seeing this site turned to more general sci-fi. BSG, Firefly, SG-1... we could pull in a lot more fans. And a lot of us already like other sci-fi shows to start off the discussions. Not to mention... it might revive the RPG's if we had a more diverse userbase.
It would, as harrykim mentioned, take some work... but I think there are a few people on here who would lend a hand. I don't really see ST making a fiery comeback for a little while... the movie might help, but really, how far can one movie go? What ST needs is a good, post-DS9 series, and it doesn't look like we're getting that. We shall find out.
