For your reference, this fan fiction takes place some 12 years after the other crystalis fan fiction I have in this forum does.

Retired Admiral Laurent Van den Hause sat casually in his garden.
He liked his garden... it was calm and quiet...
...and Lamia was buried there.
He sat in his usual spot, which was complete with holo-emitters just for him.
He had sat in his usual spot everyday for nearly 3 years now, since Lamia died.
3 years. He had been retired that long already?
He frowned as he looked at the simple rocks that held up Lamia's urn.
"buried" probably wasn't the best of terms... she wanted to be cremated.
He looked up at the stars... and he frowned.
He knew what was happening up there. Some war was about to break out.
Or something like that. It was always happening out there.
And he sat down here, in his garden. His entire property was all gardens. He didn't need shelter, or a house to live in, so he just lived in his gardens.
"Immortality has it's prices." He said aloud, to no one in particular.
Suddenly, everything that was moving, the fountain, the trees in the wind, everything stopped.
a bright flash appeared, and when it faded, a man stood there.
"You... I know you from somewhere." Laurent said to him.
"Indeed, Crystalis. It's been nearly 10 years now, since you became a hologram, and I last visited you." Q said calmly.
Laurent frowned, and looked down.
"You are needed. Out there, I'm sure you are aware, is a being called the Guardian of Forever. Recently, he has stopped functioning. This only happens when someone in the future alters the past. However, we haven't noticed any alterations. You would know it, if it were to come about. It's your gift." Q said cally.
"The Guardian of Forever?" Laurent asked in wonder.
"Yes, Crystalis. What is worse, I believe... as bad as this sounds, that it was someone you know quite well who attempted to alter the past." Q said with a frown.
"Who?" Laurent asked, still in a daze.
"I believe... that it was Fleet Admiral James Morrow." Q replied.
"James? Why would he have cause to wish to alter the past?" Laurent asked, now completely bewildered.
"Because, Crystalis, In precisely 20 minutes, his wife is supposed to die." Q said, rather bluntly.
"But He's married... to..."Laurent trailed off.
"Your sister. Elaina Van den Hause." Q finished for him.
"How can we stop him then?" Laurent asked.
"That my friend... is a question you are not going to like. 20 years from now, Starfleet and the Federation will be divided by something that you will likely not understand. Part of Starfleet, the part you are familiar with, will become what is known as the "Allied Defence Task Force", which serves... well... pretty much the public themselves, ie: Everyone but earth, vulcan, and andor, the three most powerful planets in the Federation... because those three.... will be destroyed." Q finished.
"HOW?" Laurent asked.
"Another thing...you will have to repair. Morrow's time tampering caused certain vital events not to happen, because he was too busy with his wife, instead of doing his job. This caused several peace conferences that HE was supposed to attend to be attended by someone else... and thus... they failed."Q said, in frustration.
"How do you know all of this?" Laurent asked him.
Another flash appeared next to him, and an identical version sat there.
"Because he's me, 20 years from now." Q-present said.
Laurent raised his eyebrows.
"What is the other part of starfleet?" Laurent asked.
"The entirety of Section 31 has been subverted by Morrow, in his time tampering attempts. Within the Sol system, Starbase 1 serves Morrow, and Section 31, as does virtually every colony in the Sol, Vulcan, and Andor systems. The Allied planets have been dispersed into several smaller empires, some of which are even at war with eachother... the federation has been shattered by one man." Q replied.
"And how am I supposed to help?" Laurent asked.
The Q's smiled at eachother.
"You see, we have come to you because... well.. In the future, you and Admiral Morrow duke it out, and he erases your program just before he alters the past. We have to bring you to the future, and you must stop him there, and then return to the past, and stop him then." Q-future said calmly.
Laurent rubbed his head in confusion.
With a careful nod, he grinned.
"Let's do it then." He said quietly.
Q-future nodded, and then everything went white.

Time returned to it's normal pace, and amidst the activities of the Starbase, which Laurent had never seen before.
"Ah, Admiral Van den Hause... I thought you were dealing with Morrow." An ensign said, as he walked into the bridge area.
"Van den Hause!" A commander exclaimed, as he walked further on to the bridge.
"Commander, Ensign. I have really bad news... the version of me... that went to fight Morrow... is now... deleted." Laurent said calmly.
"The version of you? Care to explain that one?" The commander asked.
Laurent smiled.
"I'd love to try. Can we go to your ready room, commander?" Laurent asked.
The Commander nodded, as they walked into the ready room.
oh boy... this one is going to be tough to explain...laurent thought to himself...
