Thanks guys, it took roughly 4 hours. I had a few elements partly premade from earlier experimentations I gave up on, so that cut the time down a bit, but it took longer also because I wasn't exactly sure what I wanted from it.
Going further I had in mind a lightning "attack" coming from the anomaly engulfing the ship and having the shields glow... unfortunately it would have ruined all the work I put into shading the ship (post-rendering didn't come out too well in 3DS).

HOLY COW! Freakin' awesome...Voyager's my favorite ship, so obviously I'm gonna love it...but that's just sweet! I like the blur ONLY for the mere fact that it gives the ship a sense of motion...otherwise I wouldn't care for it, but it just looks amazing! VERY nicely done!
