PostThu May 31, 2007 9:30 pm    Relationships in voyager

*millions of spoilers*
um... where to start. was it just me or did it make more sense to have chatkoty/janway get together than seven/chatkoty? i mean i know the captian had said something about not being able to have that luxary as captian in season 2, but i think that in the last epsode they were going home anyway, why not endulge themselves. if only the captian had been envolved with him durring the the episode workforce then MAYBE things would have been different. but what do you think about the relationships on this show?

I think Chakotay and Seven getting together was a bad idea. would of been more interesting if it was Chakotay and the Captain.. or even maybe chakotay and Be'lanna.. and it would of been itneresting to see Tom Paris hook up with Seven of Nine or Kes instead. and Harry could of been the guy who never gets the girl he lust over which could be Be'lanna

I thought the Captain and Chakotay should have gotten together. rules can always be broken and bent a little for love.
chakotay and Seven didn't match at all. He was old enough to be her father for God Sake lol. I know age doesn't matter except when it comes to be older like a father. Just seems eckky to me in my opinion.

Seven should have ended up with either the doctor or Harry.

I was super surprised when that happened. I think it was fine when they had Seven fantasize about him, but I never thought they should actually get together. Now Seven and the Doc, that would have been way more interesting.

I am definitely glad that the Captain and Chakotay never got together. Too me, Janeway's line of thinking seems to be fine, and I wouldn't have been happy if they had formed a relationship.

I do agree with the above post, Seven and the Doctor would have been great.

During the run of VOY I am glad that they didn't get together. It fit with the personality and the history of Janeway's character to focus on the mission, not of her romantic life. And I think that her paying the cost for that decision is a great character development.

However. I think that once Voyager gets back home (got, whatever), they should be together. Janeway's lost a fiancee (two if you count Mosaic, the book), a father, and it seems that everytime her life is about to settle down things get messed up. The sappy romantic in me thinks that she deserves to be happy once Voyager returns and the chaos dies down.

As for Seven, I think she and the doctor would be wonderful together. With both of their "not quite human-ness" going on they would be perfect as they both are learning together. That and they're really cute together ^-^

During the entire run of Voyager, didn't every main character get to initiate a little romance at some point during the shows run?

As for the Chakotay/Janeway thing. Kate Mulgrew stated that she expressed very clearly that she wasn't going to do anything sexual with any of the crew.

Closest the Captain got to a little nookie nookie, was lizards with Mr. Paris and a fling with a Irish hologram. Voyager knows how to party.

Once Tom and Be'Lanna got hitched, that left Harry wide open to hook up with both Delanny sisters. 7/9 was just too much uninhibited woman for Harry. Janeway/Chakotay should have rocked out when they were stranded on that planet alone together for months.

In season 5 we see them a good bit with Tom and Harry in the holodeck. Or at least we see them at the begining of 30 Days.

That lizard thing was just disturbing. I would have been just as happy had they never showed us that .

Very disturbing, indeed.

Same here. I'll have to check 30 Days and see what they look like.

one of the biggest Trek mistakes ever (IMO) - It is unlikely that Starfleet would assigns twins to the same operational post...much less the chance that both sisters would choose the same type of life, career, training, vocation and on teh same ship no less

They may have requsted it. I know there are a lot of siblings that do want to remain close together - though they certainly aren't a majority.

Hmm, well through out the 7 seasons I always felt that Kathryn and Chakotay should have gotten together and I was very upset when they put him and Seven together instead. But if you think about it Janeway was always too independent and to closed off through out the entire series to really let herself fall for anyone. Well, she is the captain after all so she really wasn't suppose to let herself fall especially for a member of her crew. Take the episode "Resolutions" they were stuck there together and were starting to get close and what happened???! She pushed him away. But I think if they had been stuck there for much longer they would have taken they're relationship further. You could see that they really cared a lot for each other...it just wasn't meant to be that way. Seven wasn't right for him though so I kinda wish they had made Kathryn and Chakotay get together.

That doesnt make a diference - lets use an extreme emaple...if one is Botanist, and the other an Tactical operation commando, the bot is most likely going to be assigned as part of a team for a, atmosphere processing project, or an agricultural ship, or other such duty....

the TAC is going to be assigned strike team attached to a battle group of some kind.

Yes this is an extreme example - however even if they both wanted to be posted together, how many agricultural survey teams do you think are out there that require a tactical military compliment. Starfleet would say - You go plant things here, and you go kill things there.

It's all in the variables. But I see your point. But seeing as we don't know much about the Delanny sisters, we can speculate all we want.

I read a book once about Geordi when he was in the acadamey. There were triplets that he was friends with.

Granted. We just dont know. I tend to err on the side of the military not concerning itself with familial arrangments superceding operational efficiency.

It wouldnt matter in the academy - it would only matter once the graduate and become operational. SFC would assign them orders fitting to their capabilities where they are needed most as exampled above.

The twins/triplets/whatever thing makes for interesting storytelling, but militarily, it is realistically inplausible, unless they both/all train for the same kind of service, and advance in a similar fashion (also highly unlikely).
