PostTue Apr 03, 2007 1:13 am    Species 8472 invasion

Here's an idea for a VOY movie: Species 8472 invades the Milky Way, forcing Janeway to get the VOY crew back together to find a way to stop them. VOY ended without ever telling us if Species 8472 actually accepts Janeway's peace proposal or if they decide to carry out they're plans to invade the Federation and wipeout all life in the Milky Way. Janeway could involve the DS9 crew by sending the Defiant into the GQ to seek out help from the Dominion in fending off this new threat to the entire galaxy. Even the Klingons (under Mardock) and the Romulans (post Nemisis peace process) could get involved in the defense of the Milky Way. And for those of us who would like to see the DQ as a part of any VOY movie, Janeway would also need help from some of the species they encountered in the DQ, not to mention the Beta empires (that we have yet to meet). Well that's just my idea, feel free to pick it apart.

The idea has merit except VOY had a peace between Starfleet and Species 8472. So the question would be..."why are they invading?"

You said VOY ended without them showing the peace, but it was heavily implied, wasn't it?

Well, perhaps it was a misunderstanding? Or maybe some sort of...corruption in the 'government' of 8472?

Or, what if some member of Species 8472 were trapped in the Milky Way and blame Janeway? Also, I think that the way the "peace" with 8472 was with that partiular group of them and they were going to try and persuade their superiors - but there was no promise that it would work.

Both of you make good points. This is why I should just be quiet about VOY, because my knowledge stinks on it.

Yeah, I guess you could use them as bad guys, if they're more eager to destroy Starfleet over the Borg.

Well, Janeway and co did give the Borg a weapon that could be used to destroy 8472, .

Well, Founder, I guess you'll just have to watch more Voyager

Janeway also gave some of that info to 8472, but I don't know how much. But it does seem like they're more interested in totally destorying the Federation as oposed to the Borg wanting to absorb it.

Founder...watch more VOY? Damn, TM, you have much to learn about this boy if you suggest things like that, J/K.

I think ultimately, the Federation and 8472 could get along, it's all really been a misunderstanding at this point, with the BORG giving them the first impression of what this galaxy is like...

I have to concur with you, Lord Borg. The Federation and species 8472 seemed to get along after clearing up the whole misunderstanding business.

Ya Founder, it was definitely heavily implied that there was a sort of peace between Janeway and Species 8472.

As for "governmental corruption," that's funny! Haha...I mean, in the sense that they actually have a government. Or also that we just don't know anything about them. They would have to have something since they had a huge space station type of thing and were getting together to invade Starfleet. LOL...

But they would make a better bad guy than an ally, but the only problem with making them a bad guy is that they would have to have a reason, and although most reasons are easy to come up with, it would have to make sense to that particular species...and that's a bit of a hard part.

Good points all around.

As for TM, I try and watch VOY on Spike.

I guess that you could possibly spin the story to have Species 8472. Although, I'd be really curious as to why they'd go after the Federation over the Borg collective, despite what VOY did. I'm sure they'd go for the Borg first, then the Federation second. Although, they could always go down the route of saying the Borg are dead after "Endgame" and now the Federation is the only threat.

It wouldn't be that much a of a stretch to say that either the superiors weren't convinced by Janeway's words or maybe a rogue faction that feels something must be done, rather then be ignored.

Another idea may simply be a grudge againts the VOY crew, because some got cut off from their space when everyone reterated, and, then there's that episode where Seven basically handed one over to the Hirogen.

True, but wasn't that before they discovered that Space Station that was basically one big fake of Starfleet Headquarters in San Francisco?

I think it was before they encountered the space station...
