The bill passed the House by a vote of 218-208.

Even if it does get vetoed (which it will), this sends a very clear message to Bush's White House.

That's great news, although, as you said, it will be vetoed, no doubt about it. And, it does send a message, though, as always with Bush and his administration, it will no doubt fall on deaf ears.

I'm not sure if it's great news - I think that October will be too fast. However, I am very pleased that Congress is putting the pressure on and showing the White House that they mean buisness.

I'm a Republican and I'm glad that this coming forward. Hopefully the Democrats can bring some much needed change.

I'm also really happy. It's not going to get passed... although I'd die of screaming for joy if it did. I hope congress stands fast on their convictions until something gets done.

I'd much rather see a plan put forth straight from generals in the field than the president, and especially more than Congress (at least the President is commander in chief. I can trust that the generals know what they are doing, and have less of a political motivation than the Democrats in Congress or the Republicans in the White House do. Too bad it doesn't really work that way, and since it doesn't, I really don't like this.

The generals did put forth many plans. And the White House didn't listen. I wish I had a source for that, so it's probably more of my interpratation, but I do know a lot of generals have quit because of the White House's behavior.

So if the White House won't listen to the generals, they have to be forced to listen by someone who has some heavier influence. As much as the Dems won't come up with as good a solution as the Pentagon would, I feel like it's better than what the last few years have been.
