And what was the point of releasing all this stuff that this murderer sent to the press? I am very disappointed that any of that was ever made public. I don't understand why we give celebrity status to murders.

I think they were torn. One of the biggest questions was what was his motive? This package helped answer that - and they felt they had a duty to show it. However, they also knew they needed to respect the families of the victims, and I think there were news sites who tried to make the victims stories more important.
I think that they mishandled it, and that they shouldn't have released as much as they did. But, I don't think anyone really knew what to do.

While I agree perhaps they shouldn't have just thrown it out so fast, TM has a point, this showed Motive, and it also showed a very disturbed person. Warning signs were there...and people didn't catch on....

There are kids like that in almost every single school in America. It's hard to know what they may or may not do.

Well, as TM said, people want to see why a person like this would do what he did. Sadly, for most people(not necessarily all), it is more interesting to see stuff on the murderer then the victims.
It's kind of a Catch 22 thing, because I really do want to see what would drive someone to do this, but on the other hand, I began to question if it was proper to give this murderer the fame he so desired.

I think that while the shooter did get a lot of press - the victims also got a wonderful tribute. The candlelight vigils held all over the US focused on the victims, and the news had some wonderful pieces on the victims as well.
I posted on Tuesday about the return to school for Tech students, and no response. Then when Arellia posted the photos, and debate was sparked again.
The news about the victims stirs a sense of sorrow, and mourning, and for many people coming up with adequate words is difficult. But the news about the shooter stirs a sense of anger, hurt, and frustration and thus sparks debate.
It's a very fine line for the news outlets to walk. And I think they've done a wonderful job of touching on both sides of the story.

I can't believe I forgot to respond to that post, TM ><.
I think it's simply easier to post a rage, or anger towards the shooter, then for some to post a remorse, or a feeling of sadness for the victims.

Oh, it's not a bitter-that-no-one-responded-to-my-post thing. It's just an observation.
Words are hard to find when dealing with tragedy, at least that's what I found last week. I had a hard time verbalizing what I was feeling until the end of the week.
Anger and hurt on the other hand are very forceful at getting one to respond.
That's why I have a hard time criticizing the media for talking about the shooter so much. They did such a good job covering the victims, and it's just easier to find words about the killer.
