More than half of a nation's youth subject to sexual abuse? Wow, that's sick.

There is so much poverty there, I'm surprised the country hasn't collapsed yet.

Outsourcing by the US and other western companies is actually doing a great service in building and stabilizing their economy. As long as their government doesn't do anything overly stupid, I can see them actually becoming a very influential nation.

Have you been there? Even the flourishing areas look like slums. Its not uncommon to see kids picking food out of the garbage.

GDP: 8.5%
Unemployment Rate: 7.8%
Inflation: 5.3%

Sure their unemployment is about 2% above where it should be and the inflation rate could be lower, but I'm saying overall, their economy is picking up and really has some great potential as long as the government does its job. I don't need to be there to look at their economy, and I didn't say there wasn't plenty of room for improvement. I just think this country has awesome potential.

Are they referring to just sexual abuse, or any kind of abuse?

Have you been there? My girlfriend is from there and has gone there frequently. There are nice areas. Not every place look like a slum.

Then it seems strange you would say that aren't really any nice areas...
That isn't to say that India has some pretty bad spots. I think India has one of the most polluted cities in the world. However, it definitly has some beautiful areas.
On the subject, I showed her this article and she said that sadly, she isn't surprised.

That's to bad to hear, Andy.
I'm sure India has some beautiful locations, I can't imagine it wouldn't. There are beautiful places all over the planet.

For some reason I'm failing to see the connection between scenery and child abuse.
Back on topic!
