Anyone watching The Dresden Files?

I saw both the premiere and this week's episode. From the commercials aired I didn't think it'd be that good, however, after watching it I think it has potential. It strikes me as almost The Collector-esque. My one problem is with the cast. Paul Blackthorne has not charmed me yet with his portrayal of Harry Dresden. He just doesn't seem to fit into the scenery. I'm hoping this will change.

This week's episode, "The Boone Identity", also wasn't great. The show lacks a strong character dynamic in its main cast; I think this was the same problem with The Collector and one of the reasons it was cancelled. Dresden is just so isolated and such a loner. It's no fun.

So I'm going to keep watching because it might improve, it might not; it's too early to tell.

I've been watching. I think it's pretty good. I like Blackthorn, as well. I've never read any of the books, but, he seems to be doing a good job, I think. The plots have been a bit bland, but, as you said, it has potential.

I've never heard of "The Collector", but, when I tuned in for the premiere, I thought it was gonna be a lot like "The X-Files". Boy, was I wrong. Still, a good show. Something to watch until "Battlestar Galactica" comes on, anyways.

You'll never hear me say this again in my life, but...

I was also skeptical when I saw the commercials, but I still haven't watched the show yet. I'll have to check it out.

If you've read the books, Don't expect it to be anything like them.

My dad made me sit down and watch an episode. This is my new favorite show on TV. I highly recommend it. I am now OFFICIALLY in love with Harry Dresden *dreamy sigh*

I ordered the first eight books from Chapters; I'm up to the eighth one, Proven Guilty.

The series is really different from the books in a lot of aspects. Jim Butcher has said that this is intentional, that the series is more of an "alternate universe" of events rather than a transfer of the books to screen. Which is fine by me. The series is okay.

The books are extremely entertaining. There's no slow spots to them--I can hardly put one down because events happen so quickly. And as you continue in the series, the events of prior novels build on each other to create this huge universe that is rich and full of texture. By the eighth book I know a lot about Harry and how he'll react, what he'll do, etc., but there's still surprises coming.

I want to get to books, but I haven't found anywhere that has them cheap enough for me. I'm checking out B&N now for used copies
