PostTue Nov 21, 2006 3:50 pm    Help Panel

I am thinking of a proposal to make a help panel topic in here, I have knowledge of Modo, Lightwave, Photoshop, Adobe Preimere, After Effects and a few more... But the point is with the raising number of desingers (hobbyists or pro) coming on here we should set up a help line so to say where people can come in the panel and ask for help with a problem or design tool? so?

That sounds like a good idea. We already have a sudo-help panel for homework (I think it's in chit chat...). It would certainly be a nice resource for anyone trying to learn more about digital (or even traditional) mediums.

I like that. It's a good idea. Then I can come here with my questions.

Well that does sound fine to me also.

I don't claim to know much but I can answer as best I can on wings 3d, Bryce, poser and Hex.

Oh and 2D wise on Paintshop pro 8 which is my workhorse. And also Swish Max which I use for my Flash work.

Well, I think that would be the point. I don't know anyone who knows everything about a program, a collection of knowlege would be the best way to learn and such.

Go for it, I think that's a really good idea, a help topic, as a N00b to this sort of thing, I find it really annoying that I either cannot find help, tuts wordered weirdly, or people acting like I am a dumb ass for not already knowing this stuff.

Well to kick things off.

I begun to put this Shuttle tutorial together. Based on the free modeller Wings 3D. Its a very basic tutorial
I need to do the rest (Nacells etc)

Maybe it would get some people to pick up a modeller and have a go

Don't take it personally, it's been slow everwheres lately. Perhaps to spark some interest, you could take a couple of simple things, and post a guide here on how to do them.

Was actually planning on doing that some time later today. Maybe another full tutorial.

Mmmmn....I have a question. I use GIMP, though. Apparently, it's similar to photoshop? Dunno...

I'd like to know how to make mission patches types, of various shapes (And I suppose, Size.). Anyone knowhow?

I'll try my hand at it when I've got a bit more time, but here are some tutorials that might help a bit:

What shape patch are you looking for? I'm gonna try it out myself in GIMP to see if I can give you any more specific pointers.

Circular for the moment . Kinda like Enterprise and Columbia on Enterprise.

http://memory-alpha.org/en/wiki/Assignment_patch
(examples under 22nd century for now)

http://www.st-spike.org/pages/uniforms/2140-2161/patches.htm

More examples. I've seen people make them before, however, I am at a lost at to how to do it.

Okay, the one I made (quickly - I don't think I spent more than 20 minutes on it) has a little more detail to it.

Is that the general idea?

Yup, thats the general idea. See, I wanted to fit in "Challenger" possibly "NX-03" a latin quote, and for a picture, poss an NX, but...thats complicated ish . I'd settle for the words at least. You've got the idea though, TM.

The way I made the image was by using the tool that's selected here and using the bucket tool to fill it in like so.

Add a few layers, move them around to line up, some text, and a few filters. Mine is much less stylized than the ones you showed me, but the idea is the same.
