PostThu Mar 29, 2007 1:34 am    Poles march to demand total abortion ban

Quote:
Thousands of Poles took to Warsaw's streets Wednesday to demand a complete ban on abortion, including in cases of rape or incest.

Two separate marches merged into a demonstration of 4,000 people in front of parliament, where lawmakers were debating amending the constitution to tighten Poland's anti-abortion law, already among the most restrictive in the EU.

"I am for life," said Miroslawa Kledzinska, 64. "God gives life and only he has the right to take life away."

Poland's abortion law allows termination of a pregnancy until the 12th week if the mother's life is in danger, the fetus is irreparably damaged or the pregnancy is the result of rape or incest.

I agree with that statement but I won't really get into this topic cause it will just go around in circles anyway. Women don't have a right to take a life in any circumstance.

I do find it interesting that they ended the article with this:
Quote:

One banner read, "Not the pope, not the president, I will decide myself."

The article also pointed out that the government will probably not change the laws.

I wonder why stop at birth? Following the logic that says it's so-and-so's body/right or whatnot, shouldn't the child be subject to execution up until they're able to support themselves entirely?
Or is that uncivilized.

I have Reservations on a total ban, while I agree its not fair under many circumstances to end a potential life (Or a life, depending on how one views it). there has to be a set guidlines for circumstances. If the mother's life for instance is in danger either by a potential birth, or the pregnancy itself, I'd have to say abort. Sad but true, the mothers been around longer and to tell someone "You have to die, because this is new life and law forbids saving you" or something like that...right.

Now, I'll agree abortion is used way to much, people don't want to use birth control, get knocked up, then abort? Yeah, ban that. That, I am all for. Cases of rape and incest are slightly harder to look at...while, it's not the childs fault, I really could make an attempt to (Never could, I'm not a woman) understand, I could see where a woman may not want to carry her rapist child.

Will only then move abortion into the back alleys and give business to 'coathanger' operators.

People who think abortion is not needed world-wide are disillusioned and blinded by the truth. Further more religious views should be ignored when it comes to law.

That argument has been used and beaten over and over. When you make anything illegal, people will find a way to do it behind the scenes. With this logic, we should legalize murder as people will do it anyways behind the scenes. Limits have to be set somewhere. Your argument is not an argument at all. The real argument is what one considers life.

I agree within reason, but I wouldn't have worded it in such a way that oozes bigotry like you did.

Aren't women supposed to have control over their body?

Isn't the baby inside the woman in it's own body? And didn't some else (the father) have something to do with this? How damn selfish.

Murder is a lot different though (IMO).

Goes without saying really. Also murder is pretty much impossible to get away with, where who really knows if one is a couple months pregnant and undergoes a coathanger abortion? Very likely to happen often if abortion law is ever passed and only the 'abortioner' and pregnant woman would have knowledge of the event.

Then we could go further and say birth control must be murder too. After morning pill and abortion pills are also murder. Simply using protection is murder. Too many questions still with vastly different opinions from people to people.

Humans have the same perceptions with animals too Re: Theresa's comment. When the baby is only the sperm in the egg or a few simple cells it's not really much of an issue but as the baby grows the importance of that life grows out to maximum from birth to around 5 or 6 years. With animals, smaller animals such as mice, rats etc have less importance than well, say tigers or bears. This is so because perhaps the size gives perception of importance or the population of the creature, which I think why something like rabbit/duck hunting and/or fishing is common compared to say, whale hunting.

Anyway i'll stop now before going too off base LOL. Just a simple explanation why I think it is. Millions of sperm is nothing, but a foetus is everything, yet the foetus is grown from a sperm (and egg, from my simple understanding yet I admit I don't know everything when it comes to the science side)
