Mon Mar 19, 2007 7:34 pm High court hears 'Bong hits 4 Jesus' case |
|
Quote: | WASHINGTON (CNN) -- The Supreme Court Monday debated the case of a high school principal who suspended a student over a "Bong Hits 4 Jesus," banner displayed at a school-sponsored event.
The free-speech case tests the limits of student messages officials could try to suppress. |

Even as a Christian, I think this is hilarious.

I suppose one might find this comical, however, this was a school sponsered event, in this area, advertisment of things like drugs, alcohol, and cigaretts/tabaco is a no-no, whether you're in school, or at a school sponserd event.
So...where's the problem in the suspension?

Because it wasn't a school event. The teachers let them go outside to see a rally of some kind.

It's almost sad that they're still fussing about this.
The kid wasn't on school property, the faculty had little reason, much less right, to trash his sign. I can imagine what this must be doing for his resume in the future "Any criminal record? Well, actually..."
If he's smart, he'll find a way to capitalize on the whole escapade; there are, no doubt, people out there who would be happy to sport a "Bong hits" shirt or cap.

It was a School Sponsered event, accoriding to the artical. Depending on the schools, rules, the Princible was more then justified. At the schools I went to, even sponsered events, you had to adhere to a certain set of rules, and a banner like that, would have broken them.

I don't recall whether or not that was mentioned back when it happened.
I'll look into some archives of my paper about it.

While it's probably in the context of weed, he never specifically mentioned it, did he? Bongs can be used for regular / flavoured tabaccos. Typically not the case, but unless drugs are specifically mentioned, they can't assume the context of the sign in order to suspend him, IMO.
Either way, I laughed when I read this, lol
