Wow, what a beast of a movie. I loved it. The only thing I wasn't happy with was the nudity. Who esle has seen it? What did you think of it?

It serves no purpose. You can have a romantic scene without showing any nudity. You can let a stoned girl dance around without showing any nudity. You can show a bunch of flamers having a party without making them all naked. Also, I can't recomend the movie to my friends from church or to my parents.

One of my favourite movies! So awesome!!
... Can't recommend it to people from church or your parents? I watch movies with nudity WITH my parents sometimes. No one really cares, lol. It's minor, anyways. Meh, but that's such a miniscule part of the movie...
Battle scenes were amazing. Some people complained about the slow-motion, but I loved that effect. Thought it was great. I found it kind of amusing how you could hear the Scotish accent of the actor who played Leonides at some points, lol.

Just got back from the theater. LOVED the movie, And I think I noticed the Scot accent so much because of you, Dan. Thanks for that,
As for the nudity, it wasn't too bad. This movie is rated R anyway, right? So you saw a few nipples, big deal. IMESHO, of course.
I took the parents to see it, since I'm so nice. That, and I needed a ride,

Nudity serves purposes in movies. It can be representational of a lot of things- innocence, form, beauty, God, vulnerability, etc.

I was rather upset by all of the boobies, to be honest. Not because they were there, but because there wasn't anything much for the females. Until Dan was so kind to point out the Spartans themselves. Then I felt better,
But seriously, it was a very good movie. Initially I thought the love scene between Leonides and his wife didn't move the storyline along, so it was unnecessary, but that wasn't true. It was the only time we got to see the depth of his love for her, which back then was rare. And we didn't have the time to see the "love in their relationship" as it were, since the movie was only 130 minutes.
I did quite like the part where she stabbed what's his name, though, And used his own words against him.
I had problems with the historical accuracy in some places, but I was in the cinema, not the classroom, so that was to be expected.

The movie's based off of the comicbook "300" which happens to be (loosely) based off of the real Battle of Thermopylae. I've heard critics complain about the historical accuracy. It's not supposed to be an exact replica. Its based off of the comicbook not the real battle, though, the comicbook just happens to be loosely based off of the real thing.
Theron was the name of the politician, btw.
The "boobies" didn't upset me at all, however, as a guy, I don't know why it would. Lena Headey (Queen Gorgo) was...quite attractive.
Lastly, I've got some rather good news to report. Besides being the third biggest R-rated weekend opening and the highest grossing March film ever, "300" is getting a sequel. Details are scarce, but, Frank Miller (the writer of the comicbook "300") is in talks with Warner Bros. to write a sequel of sorts, to be based off of Greek myth/history/etc. Not a direct sequel, I know, however, as I said, details are very scarce at the moment.

A comic book? Pfft, I'm so clueless,
Did anyone else really like the music? I will so be buying that soundtrack.

Sorry.
Anyways, yeah. The music was awesome. I may be purchasing the soundtrack myself. It was an excellent mix of cool rock-ish music and stuff you'd expect from an Ancient Greek epic.

So is the comic still available, or do you know of anyplace online to read the synopsis? I like to be informed, you know,
And freaking queen Xerxes grossed me out, ugh. (how un PC of me, )
"know that I am kind" Know that you are a freak... (Yes, I realize he was villified for the purpose of the movie, and it worked, ) Yeah, so I'm just rambling now.

Snynopses? You might wanna check the wiki. I saw it on Amazon (to buy). I don't know if it is at your local Borders, though. I don't own it m'self. I'm definitely gonna check it out.
Though, I don't know how many differences you'll find. I've heard many critics say that "300" is one of the most faithful adaptations of a comic book (or, more appropriately: gothic novel) ever. The only difference I know of is that the Queen has a bigger presence in the movie.
Anyways, you're not alone on the Xerxes part. He was a bit...odd. And, "a bit" is an understatement. The man who played was like a giant! Either that, or the guy who played Leonidas was just small, but, for some reason, I doubt that.

I don't think God, innocence, form or beauty were represented by a bunch of freaks dancing around naked. All I'm saying is that it's something I don't want to see, and that if the movie did not include these things it would probably be one of my top 10 favorite movies of all time. And I think thats saying a lot.

You would let less than 15 seconds of nudity lower the movie in your eyes that much? And it wasn't like it was pornographic. You could tell there was going to be some girl/girl action, but it's not like the camera just sat there and made you watch it. The film was merely portraying the time accurately. I suggest covering your eyes or something.

I did turn away during those scenes. I am allowed to complain about things I don't like, am I not? Those are just my personal feelings towards nudity. I feel that it lowers the value of the movie. I'm not forcing those views on anyone. I'm simply expressing them.

So you will not visit Rome or Greece? Or the Louvre?
And I didn't say you weren't entitled to your opinion, I merely expressed my own in the fact that you would let 15 seconds out of 130 minutes lessen the movie that much in your eyes.
BTW, people from church suggested it, and I saw it with my parents. And they are ultra-conservative. To each his own, I guess. If may, though, one question. Did the nudity offend you because of your religious upbringing, and if so, why did you not find the whole bit with the oracle and the "dining in hell" line offensive?

I wasn't offended by the 'Dining in Hell' line. If it were a real person that had said it I may have felt bad for that person because of my beliefs. I wasn't offended by the oracle, I just know that that is something that contradicts my beliefs (the monks were shown to be corrupt and evil anyways). I was offended by the nudity because it causes lust. The Bible says that lust is the same as commiting adultery. The only person that I ever want to see nude is my future wife. I hope that answered all your questions. I did start this topic and state that I liked it a lot. I put in the comment about the nudity because I wish someone had told me before I went to see it.

I understand what you're saying, however, on the rating box (on the bottom of movie posters and in the commercials) it gives content descriptors. "Nudity/sexual situations" is on the list.

I know, it's alright. All I'm saying is that I would have liked it more without the nudity. I'm not saying anyone should have done anything differently. End of story.

My BIL wants to see it, so I'm just going to have to force myself to go again. Such a chore.

I'm glad they didn't hold back on the violence/nudity, and try to make it PG-13. That would have killed it.
