PostSun Dec 03, 2006 4:15 am    Beneficial Assimilation From The Borg...

Would you bare the painful experience of getting injected by assimilation tubules and becoming a drone for a short while for the benefits? You get superior knowledge of millions of species, spacial anomalies and other useful scientific data that the Borg use. Also, you may get other physiological benefits like increased visual acuity, the ability to activate borg adaptive shields around yourself and the ability to detect temporal phenomena etc....

Would you go through assimilation for a SHORT WHILE (Lets say about 1 month with the Borg?) for the benefits if it would be fully accessible after you stop being a drone something like Seven of Nine?

The disadvantages? Well lets say you may have ugly visible bulging implants on your body! Also, hope you get do come across a virus created by a species to infect Borg drones...lol!

ONLY if I could get all the implants removed and was physically back to my old self. Borg impants are no tattoos, after all.

Same here. I'd love to experience the hive mind, but not spend my whole life there

Remember what 7 of 9 said. "The lure of perfection is powerful." I would like the knowledge that the Borg possess but I like free will too much to give it up for any length of time.

On another note, if I didn't have a choice, I could stand having leftover effects, implants, etc... Because I'd have served the time and still gotten what I wanted, knowledge and to leave. But given the choice, I'd stay plain old human any day.

The Borg has a plan and level of assimilation for anyone. Don't forget Picard and Janeway were Borg for awhile. I doubt one could stand many implants and still return. Of course the worry is-- would I want to return?

What I was getting at in my last post, which I'll put accoss more clearly here.
Most Borg are assimilated against their will.
Their thoughts are added to the hive mind.
Wouldn't a lot of drones be thinking about escaping the collective, until the collective's goal would be to escape the collective?
Are you following me?

PS Sorry about the dublpost last time. I doubleclicked the Click here thingy

Their thoughts aren't added to the hive mind. Their thoughts are blocked, their memories suppressed. They are like Peripherals( i finally found the perfect word for Borg Drones).
Drones don't think. they don't have a conscience.

I am sure there are protocols and suppressants for irrelevant discourse in the Borg Collective which is why in the episode, Survival Instinct, they only started to remember details of their life and had thoughts of escape only when their borg link had been severed.

I hate doctors and mechanics. I wouldn't want to have a mechanic as my doctor... creepy concept there.
"Alright, Mr. Churchill, that will be 12.95 for the oil change, 200.00 for the new finger replacement, and 50.00 for the system upgrade"... *shudders*
