PostWed Dec 06, 2006 2:37 pm    Future over?

I have heard some rumours, but i never believed it's true. Now that i heard a new rumour, i begin to consider if it might be true:
Paramount stopped making Star Trek series. Has Star Trek finally reached outerspace? Can they not go further anymore?

It seems that the costs are to high and that, as Paramount says: "There are to few people who watch this."
With this i start thinking: Are the fans not loyal anymore? Do they not watch Star Trek anymore?

The answer is simple: Paramount wants more fans. They do not care if there are still loyal fans. They just want more fans!
I say: Screw them! We do not need Paramount! Then again.. they are the only ones who can make excellent ST series.. Are we stuck? Is it really over? NO! Let us sign a petition that might reach Paramount! Let us reunite for Star Trek!

Okay.. at least a tried to make a petition, but it turned out bad. Just.. would be good if someone made a petition we could sign.. IF the rumours are true.

They are making a new Star Trek Movie. I'm glad they aren't making a new series yet, it is far too early. Star Trek TV needs a rest.

You said a lot of interesting stuff and a lot of it rings true, sadly.

I'm not sure what's happening to Star Trek and the entire genre, but it is safe t osay that we are seeing a rather low point.

Will Star Trek recover?

I don't know the answer to this question to be honest.

Can Star Trek recover?

Without a doubt. Star Trek has the potential. Look at Batman or Superman or BSG. All of these were old or in serious need or resurgence. Now they all have it. It's possible.

As for did Paramount stop making ST shows, well....they did. After ENT, there has not been a new ST show.

The fans are loyal. It's Paramount that isn't loyal. While ENT had it's good spots, there were some monumental flaws, but it did not begin with ENT. As much as VOY don't want to admit it, VOY was hated too. Paramount needs to stop throwing these mediocre shows at us. We need a lot more than that.

Well, I agree with you that Paramount sucks, but as you said, we need them to make more ST stuff. So we're kind of stuck with them.

Petitions rarely, if ever, work. I wouldn't hold out on one.

I agree about the TV thing. However, this garbage movie is not going to save Star Trek. We're now stuck with yet another mediocre show about the past. No one wants to go back to the Kirk days. This is going to hurt, not help Trek. After ENT, I honestly am shocked that they want to attempt more prequel garbage.

Over? I really don't know. At the moment their so obessed with getting new fans, thaty they are ignoring the old ones. The prequel is not the problem, its the apparent lack of research that will be put into this project thats the problem.

The mere existence of places such as this forum or others says that Star Trek will never die. That has nothing to do with whether there is a movie or series coming out soon, if there was never another movie or series, it would still live on.

Aye, the fact is, I'm surprised that, even after 5 years, you all find things to discuss about Voyager.
In the time it would take for StarTrek to be forgotten, someone would've already made another series.

The Original Star Trek series was only 3 seasons long, and Trekkies stayed loyal for 18 years before the next series came out.

They should make a sequel. Something from 1701J era. Nobody likes lo-tech (except russians. it's called "kuvalda tecnology", and it means, U can fix everything with big enough hammer).

I would like something that goes beyond voyager, how the voyager crew turned out a few years after getting home, the new advanced technologies, and an invasion of delta quadrant empires invading the alpha quadrant (the races voyager encountered).

As for the star trek future being over? I dont see it happening, there is to much future to explore and so many major impacts in the future (brought out on alot of star trek series) that will effect the federation. I think it will take time to get another future series and movie, but it will happen. Right now there is areas of the past that need to be covered and once thats done theres no other way but the future to cover.

Has Rick Berman died yet?

When Rick Berman is not allowed to screw with Star Trek, then Paramount will finally get the fans it desperately wants.

I thought I heard somewhere that he wasn't associated with star trek anymore, but I can't remember where I heard it. I could be wrong.

You are correct. Berman is no longer associated with Star Trek. However, do not cheer just yet. We've got a new enemy. J.J. Abrams, the man helming the new movie. Abrams, himself, has admitted to having only seen TOS and TNG. I definitely want him helming my favorite T.V. series, especially after seeing his other works...(sarcasm)

Anyways, about the idea of a prequel? I don't know how many times I've said this but the idea of a prequel is horrendous. I actually liked ENT, however, I couldn't get into it as much as the others. We need to keep moving into the future. Honestly, what else new can be added into the franchise without breaking established canon, which we all know would anger us fans. Prequels are never good. I don't like the SW prequels and I'm almost positive I'll dislike this one, as well. After all, who wants to see a new actor play Kirk? No one can play Kirk besides William Shatner. It's the law! It'd ruin Kirk's entire image for me. Only Shatner could and should play Kirk and it is the same with everyone else. I mean, if Samuel L. Jackson suddenly took over for Brooks, if a DS9 movie was made? I'd be furious.

You know what though, maybe it's a good thing that he hasn't seen anything else. Maybe he'll put a new spin on things that will make non-trekkies like the movie. Isn't it suppost to be a pre-TOS film? Also, I like everything that I know of that Abram's has done (MI:III and Lost).

Ya, but just because he's done so well with MI:III and Lost, doesn't mean he'll do well with Trek. I mean, they're totally different. Just think of how badly his career might be hurting if he screws this up....again.

I can see the critics now...

"Oh, he did so well with MI:III, and Lost has done exceptionally well for a show of it's stature...but when he went to Trek, in it's time of need, he screwed them up. Again. I mean, that was 3 movies in a row that didn't live up to expectations..." Blah blah blah.

I mean, Insurrection was alright, but it just was too soft. And Nemesis was REALLY good, but there was just so much missing...I dunno what exactly was missing, but it was just, plainly put, lacking. And if it happens yet again with the new movie, he'd totally jack up his career...That'd be hilarious! Haha...

Ya, that's true...but if we think negatively and set the standards low, then hopefully they'll come out with something totally AWESOME! LOL...haha...I'm SO not counting on that...

Star Trek will eventually come back in full force if they get the right writers.

sadly this is true..if you've noticed, when thy made Enterprise (which is supposed to preset the kirk era, they used a lot of stuff that they used AFTER the kirk era so it didn't really make that much sense

no neccesarily things they've used but like aliens, gadgets, everything..its like Enterprise is more of an up to date show then when kirk was captain..if it is to predate kirk then they should have made it look like its predateing kirk....alot of the aliens on enterprise I have never even heard of before....pretty much all I'm saying is that they should have done just a little bit more research before makeing Star Trek Enterprise
