Tue Feb 27, 2007 7:37 pm Research links some scriptures to hostile acts |
|
Quote: | PROVO Chances are, not many people in Utah would like to think of scripture as a violent medium that promotes hostility.
But a study of 490 students 248 of them at Brigham Young University suggests a correlation between exposure to scriptural violence that is condoned by God and increased aggression. |

I read that article and it's garbage. They subjected people to tests and those who happened to be religious where more tough and aggressive, then those who weren't. That's like me putting Star Wars fans and LOTR fans together in a competition and the person that wins, for example is a SW fan, proves that watching SW tends to make you more aggressive.

I'm an atheist, myself, and, I don't believe for a second that "some religious scriptures" lead to aggressive behavior in religious people.
And, for the record, I think we all know that, in the event of an SW-LOTR fan fight, the LOTR fan would win. That's all I'm going to say on the issue, as it is a discussion for a different time and place.

To me, it's always the interpretation of religious scripture which can lead to aggressive acts, not the scripture itself. For example, Islam. Radical Islamo-fascists interpret the Koran in a way different from what it is meant to be, therefore spurring aggressive acts among those individuals. The faith of Islam, however, is different, as is the Koran.

It seems like those half-baked studies they use to link games to violence.

Oh don't get me started on those.
Mindless dribble on how video games are corrupting America's youth.
I played so many games, many that required me to be violent(within the game), and I did not grow up violent. Millions of others have gone through the same thing.
People just link whatever they want to link to push their agenda.
