The Story
The name Challenger is a famous one, used by Earth time and time again for various names of differnt kinds of craft, from land, sea, air and of course, space. The Space program used by mid-twenteth century Earth had a series of space shuttles, made for the OV program. A series of shuttles were built, with five active in total constructed, one such shuttle was named Challenger OV-099. The space shuttle challenger flew several missions, adding to humanities limited knowlege of space and the outer universe.

2156, nearly two centuries later, the name Challenger is used again by Earth in a space program, the NX program, a series of warp five starships dedicated to the exploration of deep space, to expand humanitis knowlege of the galaxy, and to seek out new worlds and discover new lifeforms. The Challenger, is the third such starship to be constructed, and was completed in late 2156. In addition to exploration, the Challenger would also defend Earth and its allies againts the Romulan Star Empire, in which war currently was engaged in a conflict with, due to a series of incidents between the two governments.

The crew of the Challenger will explore the region of space known to contain Romulan activity, to scout and report back to Earth any military movements and buid up within any areas that could present any danger to Earth or its allies. The ship would be at a constant risk, with a potential for many, if not all to never return home, that however, does not deter the crew from preforming their duty.

Challenger NX-03
The Challenger is the third NX-Class Earth vessel, completed in late 2156, the ship is similar to Enterprise and Columbia, with a few upgrades. The hull plating system which was further upgraded from the Columbias by another 8%. The pulsed phase cannons were upgraded 6.2 %, with the sensor systems being the state of the art. Perhaps the most improved area of the ship is the speed, while it was called a warp five starship, the work of the various engineers from Enterprise, Columbia and Starfleet has allowed the core to sustain a speed of 5.4, if the vessel was pushed to its limits. The maximum cruise was updated to 5.09, with the normal cruise of Warp 4.56. There was a quiet talk that Challenger could hold its own if enganged in combat with a Romulan Bird-of-Prey.
