It has nothing to do with it, this was mentioned in a book, therefor has no real standing in the canon.
As for the Mind melds, Tuvok did that all the time, and he and several other Voy people were assimilated.

I agree, tuvok was assimulated i dont think a mind-meld with a human would really matter much

Um...Maybe? No? They can assmilate technology, but in FC, it would seem that it was not an option...

I dont know, i know the borg queen tried in first contact but was unable too, as far as she got was graphics skin on data.But again it was data's choice weather to follow the borg or be loyal to picard.

To be fair, it wasn't said if they did, or did not try. I dont think they can though, because Data mentioned the information in his nerul net cannot be removed by force.

If the borg happened to assimulate data,then it would be through his positronic or neural net that they are able to turn him into a drone state. And like you said lorg borg it, cant be removed by force.
I dont think data could ba assimulated from my stand point.

actually assimilating data in first contact doesn't make sense to me the queen was making organic components a part of data. how is making him human making him "perfect"?
