Actually, we liberated them from tyranny. What they do with their freedom is up to them. And considering they've never really experienced freedom before? They're not doing too badly. (remembering elections, etc...)

Right, Theresa. We have to keep in mind, too, that this isn't the United States. Our transition to Democracy went a lot more smoothly than this, but that's because our history was different. We can't expect the same response from the Iraqis that we did.

I don't think American transition went too smoothly either...
The majority of these people are being killed by their "countrymen", not Americans. So they have only the terrorists to thank for this mess.

I'm talking after the Revolutionary War, which did go quite smoothly.

I think they're having both their civil and revolutionary war right now.

If you call a Civil War "smoothly", then yeah.

I'm talking even before the Civil War. Like, the Confederation and the early Constitutional Republic. 1780s through 1820s.

1780-1810. War of 1812?
And the Iraqis still haven't gotten out of their revolutionary war. It just became a civil war.

And tarring and feathering people, slavery, the treatment of Native Americans, and fights between immigrants in cities was smooth?
I think that Iraq is going to get worse before it gets better...I just hope that things get better *soon*.

1812 involved the British attacking after our government had been established successfully.
There was no Iraqi Revolutionary War in the American sense. That would be when we invaded. Now we're seeing the post-war violence, not a civil war.

As far as the transition and so forth is concerned, and compared to Iraq, yes. We didn't have the situation like we do in Iraq, and that stemmed from a different history.

Post-War violence is what we saw in Germany after WW2. Pockets of radical SS troops. Iraq is beyond that stage. It has advance to civil war. Mostly because Iraqi's are fighting each other now, not just our troops.
