He's not saying that peace is a waste of time, but that trying to make peace between these groups is essentially futile. It makes sense, though I do disagree with him.
But that's not why I said he should be our ambassador. He wouldn't be able to not work towards negotiated peace if that was what he was told to do, as an ambassador, anyways. What I was talking about was his belief that the Un is a broken organization. He believes it should be dismantled, but as an ambassador was doing all that he could to reform it, and that's what the organization really needs - a man who will try to reform it.

No, that's not true at all. He's not our ambassador because the Democrats and some Republicans wouldn't let him be it. He served both well and admirably during his tenure as ambassador.
