CNN wrote:
WASHINGTON (CNN) -- A U.S. gunship has attacked suspected al Qaeda targets in southern Somalia, a senior Pentagon official said Monday.

The AC-130 flew its mission within the last 24 hours, the official told CNN. The operation was launched based on intelligence that al Qaeda operatives were in the location, but there was no immediate indication of how successful the strike had been.

Additionally, the official said, the aircraft carrier USS Dwight D. Eisenhower has moved within striking distance of Somalia, but its jets have not been put to use.

We're finally cleaning up Clinton's mess there. Good.

This at least shows the American people that the war does go beyond just Iraq.

So death is a good thing? It will be a good thing for us to aprehend them and punish them for what they've done, but what will death do? I worry that it turns them into martyrs and only fuels hatred to the U.S.

I wish I could think of a more constructive way of handling the situation, because I feel like they'll just retaliate, then we'll retaliate, then they'll retaliate, then we'll retaliate...and you get the idea.

Personally I wouldn't shed a tear over al Qaeda casualties. I understand it could become a tennis match, back and forth, but as long as we're taking out threats? I'm for it. If only diplomacy would work...

And naturally it doesn't. Hence why this type of action is just what we need to do.
