If she was captain all the way through i don't think i would have liked voyager as much as i do now. She doesn't seem right for the part, shes to cold, not enough emotion. Kate rules!!!

Haha...I agree TOTALLY! I couldn't believe it when I watched it. I was in total and utter disbelief that they had originally chosen that woman. Now, there were ALOT of other woman to auditioned for the part, and they chose HER?! LOL...I'm sure that anybody could have done better than her, but I love Kate Mulgrew and dearly believe that nobody could have done as well as her...

Bujold was offered the part without an audition. She's a tremendous actress--in films (and in two languages, for that matter). But she'd never done series television before and the schedule is brutal. There's no time for extended rehearsals, and the pace is three times what it takes to shoot a film.
She knew she was out of her element quickly, and did the wise thing. She quit.

Mulgrew was the woman for the job. Her looks totally fit a starfleet captain, when I saw Bujold, I thought it was some fony joke.

I agree with the Dutch Admiral. Once you've seen Mulgrew, you can't imagine anyone else as Voyager's Captain

i think kate mulgrew plays janeway lodddddddddddddssssssss better! she kinda suits the character!
i don't think i would like voyager if kate wasn't janeway!

Yeah, I agree. Genevi�ve Bujold is a great actress but wasn't suited for the part. She was too cold and stiff. Not enough passion and emotion with the character. Kate was just much more suited for the part. I heard that she was the 2nd choice if they didn't go with Bujold. She just played the part of Janeway with a lot of strength, passion, and emotion. Who knows what would have happened if Bujold still played on it. She could have gotten used to it maybe after a few episodes, but pilots are very crucial to the show's success so I don't think it would have done well. She was very smart to quit before it was too late. I think of that scene with the same lines that Kate did and it was just done so much better with Kate. And I thought Bujold was too old for the part. Janeway's original name was supposed to be Nicole Janeway, but then later Kate asked it to be changed to Kathryn. Wise choice in my opinion.
I've seen the clip before on Voyager's first season, since I have it on DVD.  The first clip of Dilbert was hilarious with Seven as the alarm clock. "I am very turned off right now."

I dunno if it was Kate that asked for Janeway's name to be changed to Kathryn. But I did know that her name WAS intended to be Nicole. Kathryn is just more "commanding" than Nicole for the character, I think...
As soon as I get time, I'm gonna take the EXACT same scene and cut it out of the episode and upload it to the internet and then provide the link here so that we all can see the SIGNIFICANT difference between the two actresses. Granted, I'm sure most of us have seen the real pilot episode, but for those who have not, they can compare for themselves...

I read somewhere that Kate wanted it to be changed to Kathryn because Nicole sounded too French and since it was more for the part of Bujold, she wanted to change the name. That would be interesting to do for the pilot episode so we can watch the differences between the 2 actresses. When do you plan on doing it and will you post it on myspace?

I plan to do it soon. I've been so busy lately that I just haven't the time to do it. Granted, it's fairly simple, but I just need the time to do it. I'll probably post it on YouTube, the same place I found the other one. Because I have no real reason to place it on my Myspace account.

Bujold wanted the character to be called Nicole cause it was her first name. I agree that it's not right for a commanding character. I also agree that Bujold is a good actress, just not for television.

Yep, I'm quite serious. When I wake up all I hear is "Get out of bed, resistance is futile, wake up and assimilate the day" over and over My friends laugh when they're staying here, and my alarm wakes us all up. At least I wake up with a smile on my face
