The big deal is we want one format, not several. We've already stated that it may change but for now, its what we have.

Chris, I think he's saying he wants to institute a format for the char. before we work on them and then have to go back and change the format for 9 differnet people. Since I'm about 90000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000 characters, I can appreciate that.

Perhaps we can find some kind of common ground here?

What if I did it by your format? I can do that, you know. My purpose here isn't to use my format so much as it is to make something easier to work with.

The point is...We have a table, and a format, and you want to use a differnt code. I'd like to do one step at a time, I like the borders, it allows for a...speration of the stats, while still being on the same page. Also, that particular coding format is actually adjustible, all you have to do is adjust the header code and the borders and lay out adjustes.

Guys, we're not working in unison here. What is the deal?

If I understand this right, RM wants to attempt making some kind of page(?) on a new table template?

This is the format if I understand it correctly.

Quote:
{{Infobox
|name=
|image1name=
|affiliation=
|homeworld=
|age=
|gender=
|birthdate=
|occupation=
|rank=
|spouse=
|family=
|awards=
|status=
|image2name
}}

I admit, that looks WAY easier then what we use now.

So, what are the downsides of using RM's table?
What are the downsides of using Chris' table?

I'm working on a sample over at Telarus to show you what the template would look like and what you'd need to do to get your table, as well as a sample for it. That should be done shortly, though with my current look.

I'll tell you the big downside to Chris's table: The code for it is long. You have to muddle through a lot to get though it, and when you have as many characters as some of us do, that's going to get tedious and, to be blunt (and with no offense intended), annoying.

I'm trying to figure out how to keep Chris's design, which is hard for me to do, but I really think a template would be sooo much easier for the bios. All you have to do is fill in the stuff after the equal signs. It's so much simpler, and that's all I'm trying to do here - make it easier to work with. I'll work with you on the design, but all I'm asking for is a simple template to make it simply easier.

To get a better idea for what this would entail, check out "How to construct an Infobox" at http://www.telarus.org/wiki/index.php?title=How_to_make_a_Profile

That gives you a good idea for what this would entail. I'm almost done with my sample page, however.

I have the page done. I didn't load up new images or anything, so I just used Telarus materials for it. It isn't quite final (especially if I have to figure out how to make it look like you've got it now), but it gets basically what the code for the template would be, what it would look like as-is, what you would have to put in for your bio, and a sample. Of course this is with my design, but yeah.

Well, I only added the sample there so you guys could see what it would look like with stuff filled in. If you were going to directly copy this over, I would use the following, starting with creating a page entitled "Template:Infobox" or something like that.

Code:
{| class="infobox bordered" style="width: 25em; font-size: 100%; text-align: left;" cellpadding="5"
|+ style="font-size: larger;" | '''{{{name}}}'''
|-
| colspan="2" style="text-align: cenmter;" | [[Image:{{{image1name}}}|200px|center|{{{name}}}]]
|-
! Affiliation:
| {{{affiliation}}}
|-
! Homeworld:
| {{{homeworld}}}
|-
! Age:
| {{{age}}}
|-
! Gender:
| {{{gender}}}
|-
! Date of Birth:
| {{{birthdate}}}
|-
! Occupation:
| {{{occupation}}}
|-
! Rank:
| {{{rank}}}
|-
! Spouse(s):
| {{{spouse}}}
|-
! Family:
| {{{family}}}
|-
! Awards:
| {{{awards}}}
|-
! Status:
| {{{status}}}
|-
| colspan="2" style="text-align: cenmter;" | [[Image:{{{image2name}}}|200px|center|{{{name}}}]]
|-
|}<noinclude>

==Usage==
Copy and paste the template below:
<pre>

{{InfoboxDSG
|name=
|image1name=
|affiliation=
|homeworld=
|age=
|gender=
|birthdate=
|occupation=
|rank=
|spouse=
|family=
|awards=
|status=
|image2name=
}}</pre>
</noinclude>

That would be the stuff to copy to the page, at least to test it out.

Oops, I made one mistake. "InfoboxDSG", for you, should be just "Infobox" if that's what you're calling the template.

One more thing, I'd prefer the persons name to be IN the table, over the picture...can you do that?

After a bunch of tedious trial and error stuff, it's been done.

If you decided to go off of the traditional Wiki design (like my template has), I know how to do plenty of other things with it to keep continuity, such as nice and neat tables, pictures with captions, and so forth.

I could see, for instance, the DSG story page with pictures with captions to go along with it. However, there is a slight overlapping of the text with the borders the way they are and stuff. If you went the way I've been suggesting, you can do more (at least, I think) while maintaining continuity of design.

Just my opinion, of course, but I ask that you at least consider it.

Yes, and we would. I'm just making suggestions. You can't do anything without the expression of ideas first. Besides, I'm not allowed to do anything anyways.

No borders? There's gotta be something wrong with your Wiki, then, 'cause we've got borders at Telarus. Are you sure you did it right?
