PostWed Dec 20, 2006 12:33 am    Star Trek: Return Quest [Recruitment and Discussion]

STAR TREK began under the guiding principles of exploring the unknown and pushing new limits into the Final Frontier. Now, bringing us "back to Trek," comes a new epic RPG created under those principles.

Presents

In conjunction with

(Click the pic to link to RPG.)

Story:
War has just begun to engulf the Alpha Quadrant. The Nautolian Empire, led by the traitor Sit Fito, formerly first officer of Deep Space Guardian, in conjunction with the Cardassian Empire, has begun an assault upon the United Federation of Planets. The Obsidian Order has just taken Deep Space Nine, and the Nautolian Empire has just initiated an assault upon a Federation colony on the edge of Nautolian space. A fleet of 12 ships, included within it the Excelsior-class starship Eagle Star, has been dispatched from Deep Space Guardian to combat the Nautolian advance into these colonies...

It's time to get back to Trek!

Senior Officers:
Commanding Officer, Captain James Reiman (Republican_Man)

1st Officer, Commander (Founder)

2nd Officer, Chief Tactical/Security Officer, Lt. Commander (Spellbinder Marik)

Chief Operations Officer, Lt. Commander (La Forge)

Chief Engineer, Lt. Commander (OPEN)

Chief Medical Officer, Lieutenant (Currently Ensign) Kalekh (Tuvok8917)

2) PM me a bio with the following information and BE SURE TO BOLD WHERE IT IS BOLDED! I will return bios that are not in the proper format. (The below may be quoted and copied so that you don't have to worry about bolding it yourself.)

I just wanted to say, globally (that is, to all RQ members), that I am very pleased with the start of the RPG. I'll be posting again in a bit, but I'm liking what I see and liking how it's already steaming on ahead.

If you have any species suggestions at any point, please suggest them here.
If you have any episode ideas (once we really get started), please feel free to share them here.
If you have any other suggestions or ideas, please share them here!

Well, one suggestion is to put the deck pics. At least maybe the bridge. Already it's caused confusion in positions.

A general idea that I think would be cool for an episode is an anomly episode. With DSG, it's a little trickier and harder to do that since we're in one place for the majority of the time. We don't necessarily have that limitation with this RPG.

1. Founder - I'll get to it, starting tonight; don't worry
2. Founder - Oh, yes, I was definitely thinking about an anomaly episode. Those are fun I was also even thinking of dabbling into the MU of the new galaxy, too. I think that'd be interesting (once we've got a lot established, of course).
3. La Forge - That's an interesting idea for a species. What would you suggest it be like?

Okay, our CMO position has just been taken. Tell your friends (especially the good RP'ers ) that the following positions are open:

Chief Engineer
Chief Science Officer

Helmsman is an NPC. Any subordinate positions are available as well. I will also accept an Astrometrics officer if somebody wants it.

I had sent this idea to RM and wanted to see what others thought of it. Of course, it's up to RM to approve it, but I just wanted to see if people like it. If the majority don't, obviously it should probably be discarded.

Quote:
I was thinking that Excelsior class starships are really...overused. Also, we want to create an entire alien universe, you know? We don't want this to be another Alpha quadrant without a Federation(VOY already did that with the Delta). Here are my two main ideas.

1) A universal alien language. Star Wars and Farscape did this. In Star Wars, the universal languages were "Basic"(Human English) and "Huttese"(a definite allegory to Spanish being the second most spoke language. Huttese has Spanish words if you listen closely.) In Farscape, a Human was lost in another universe and he had to learn a different language. While it seems like they're talking in English on the show, really they're speaking an alien language all the time. I thought it might be cool if the crew was forced to do that. I'm thinking the universal translators could not handle the new languages and their complixety and uniqueness, so we're forced to learn the language of that galaxy (or quadrant, it's up to you). Of course, every species has their own language. I'm thinking the Universal language is Rakatan when their empire spanned across the galaxy (or quadrant. AGAIN, up to you.) That is why most species can speak the language, while having their own languages as well. It can be our own allegory to the world today. Just like various nations around the world have their own language, the majority speak English. It can show how influential this Rakatan empire was, even though they died out centuries ago. It shows that PARTS of their legacy still exist today and we can even connect that somehow to the Machine Race. Another thing I thought would be interesting and kind of funny is if/when we returned to the Alpha quadrant, we'd feel so...different, so out of place. We didn't forget to speak English or whatever Earth language, but we'd try and speak in our own new language after using it for so long. It would make us...unique essentially. I just thought that might be interesting.

2) My second idea, and the more controversial one, is that we use an alien ship for the RPG. I'm sure you're skeptical and probably already don't like it, but hear me out. Again, this is an idea to make this more uniqe and note a VOY rehash. I think it would be interesting if the Eagle Star was beyond repair and would be unable to even jump from system to system. So, we attempt to seek out a new starship and the good aliens (I forgot their names) are unable to help us, but claim still point us towards the general direction of the device that could get us home. Perhaps, deep underground in that base or whatever you were planning, we find an ancient Rakata ship. It's inside of the ship that we find the information that we need or part of it. The data is so corrupt, degraded, and lost that we gain no new insight into the Rakata essentially, but enough to start us on the path. Now, I know you're already thinking "This doesn't feel like Trek to me..." It is, because we'd keep our uniforms, weapons, and command structure. It would be kind of like how DS9 took place on a Cardassian station. We'd also have so much room to do a ton of stuff. We can format the bridge to look whatever way you wanted, while simultaneously having our own sickbay, engineering, mess hall, etc. We could gauge it's strength, speed, etc. Well, YOU could since it's your RPG. My idea is to use the White Star from Babylon 5.

Tons of exterior pictures and it has such a cool, sleek design to it. This of course would not be the only Rakata design in case you wanted the Rakata to have something else as their design. Just like the Federation, Borg, etc have multiple designs for ships. Also, evne though the Rakata are old and the ship would be pretty old, the ship would still be damned advanced. I'm thinking since they spanned the galaxy, the ship would have transwarp? (Just a suggestion).

We wouldn't be as limited by the Excelsior class and not have to reuse that vessel. Maybe the Eagle Star wouldn't even have to be destroyed, but docked within the large Rakata vessel? So we could maybe use it in the future or something?

We'd also have access to unique fighters, shuttles, weapons in addition to the ones we have. I know, you're probably thinking "But I wanted us to be desperate at times. Wouldn't this make us too powerful?" No, not necessarily. We'd be hindered by the fact we don't know the ship that well, tons of defects due to the ship's age, strange fuel source that we need to constantly continue to fill, and more. Also, many planets would probably have HATED the Rakata and would attempt to destroy us, meanwhile hte Machine Race want to see how a Rakata vessel survived and rush to attack us, causing constant problems for us.

Another plus would be that some doors are completely sealed and we have no access to some parts of the ships. Leaving some episodes to make us explore new parts of the ship. Heck, one room could have Rakata in statsis chambers. My point is that there are TONS of open grounds with this idea.

Another idea that would be cool is if there is some kind of hologram onboard. He is like a ship regulator. Could go on every deck and due to a memory loss, has no information on the past OR he was wiped of his memory on purpose OR he's purposely hiding information from us. Since we don't want to reveal the Rakata so early, he could be a hologram of a slave species. Or what might be more interesting was if he was MACHINE built by them, but made to serve. Same stuff about the memory wipe. It would also be a nice nod to the Machine Race and the Rakata's love of building them.

I know the ideas may seem strange at first, but think about it. I think it would be highly interesting to do that and leave us with tons of room. ALSO, we'd make sure to ensure this is still Trek though through many means as I stated before.

Now, some of that stuff won't make sense since some of the stuff was only discussed by me and RM. Anywho, what do you all think?

NP. The White Star. A cool-looking ship, indeed. I can't wait to see that, when I get to it, in B5.

Anyways, you know what would make this RPG even more unique (if we use Founder's plans)?

Wait for it...

Two words.

Space...Cougars.

Or maybe you should ask me

This isn't the final product, though. I'm working on that. Only Founder and I will see that, so they'll at least be some surprises out there

And sure, there will be space cougars at some point, LF

Good idea Founder.

Only transwarp.. why Transwarp? We don't even know if they have warp tech. They could have a much complexer system then warp.. I was more thinking of some kind of Sub-Space travel system orso.

Ah, just a suggestion...

We've actually chatted about not making it transwarp, but something like it. Thanks for the suggestion, though

You should start posting! As of now the CMO is still NPC, but yeah. I'm sure there are wounded lying around
