Mon Nov 27, 2006 4:14 pm New Garrett Wang interview |
|
Hey all.
Here's a new audio interview with Garrett Wang. It's audio, and about 2 hours long. Great stuff.

Sounds like the Voyager set wasn't all that happy.
Warning to Kate fans--she doesn't come off well in this, so if you don't want to hear Kate described negatively and She-Who-May-Not-Be-Named-In-This-Forum described sympathetically, you might want to bypass.
Apparently Kate made the newcomer's life as miserable as she could for 4 long years.

I really liked listening to the Garret Wang interview. I thought it was very funny. Having met him in person just this last summer was awesome and he was a lot like that. Very friendly, energetic and candid. I'm a Kate fan, and still am. I've heard the stuff that went on with Jeri Ryan and even though I can understand that they shouldn't have used the character as just a sex symbol at first with her costume, I don't think Kate Mulgrew should have taken out her anger and frustration on Jeri Ryan. It wasn't her fault that some of the producers and writers were being stupid sometimes. But overall I thought the whole interview with Garret was very funny. I laughed several times while listening to them all talk.

Um...Seven of Nine may not be named in this forum? That's funny...since you know...she's a Voyager character and all and this is a Voyager site and all.
Anywho, I'm trying to load the interview, but it's not working.

And the embittered Kes, and the hordes of lobotomised Trekkies who thought Jeri Ryan can't act, and the people who couldn't stand Seven's mere appearance and felt she was overused, despite the fact she was only sidelining a load of busted flush characters anyway (like Kim), and...
You get my drift.

thanks for posting that. I really enjoyed it, and it gives me more of an appreciation for Garrett Wang. I dont go to conventions anymore, but if one just happened to be near my location and he would be there - I would go. I loved his impressions, hilarous! After an hour and half of listening to him I didnt want the program to end.
I always wondered how the set caught on fire. From what I had heard it seemed like it was something that happened when no one was there.
I had heard about Kate Mulgrew's reaction to Jeri Ryan, but I didnt realize how long it lasted. I agree with Garrett she should have just bitched to the producers and left the girl alone. I admit years ago when Voyager was on I did take my anger out on her as well, and that wasn't right.
It's so depressing to see such a talented actor, on a show that wont let him express that. And honestly I had thought alot of it to do with the actor - now I see how horribly wrong I was.
I loved what the writers did! I'm gona have to look out for the 'commentating' lines.

The interview was fantasic. I finally got it to work. He confirmed everything I ever thought of Janeway(Mulgrew). She didn't seem like such a nice person.
Also, Lynx in the Kes topic, seemed to imply that Mulgrew acted that way because her and Jennifer were close and she didn't kindly to getting rid of Lien. That's bull according to Garret. He said that Mulgrew was under the impression that she alone was "advancing" women's rights as a female captain and all this garbage and then they brought Seven who was sexy and they thought that set women back. So....a woman can't be sexy without setting back the gender centuries? Is that how it works now?
Mulgrew sucks, plain and simple.
Also, he spoke in length on Berman and Braga and what he said was great. What he said about them was REALLY funny.
"I've always said that if there is a hell in this world or this existance then Berman would be the first on the list."
How true. B&B ruined Trek...

I wholeheartedly agree. I loved it too.
Watching Voyager a lot yesterday and today, I've noticed that Wang really explained something I've noticed: the acting of the humans just doesn't seem very good. Why? Because it's clear that this cardboard cutout policy that he talked about inhibited their ability to act out the characters in a way that feels more...I don't know, appropriate. The acting just doesn't seem right to me for the humans.

Yeah RM. I remember him talking about how Berman ordered the Humans to act stiff and emotionless, militiristic like. That explains why in season I, II, and III they acted like that. It gets better later on though. It was his ridiculous way of making the aliens stand out more or something.

Yeah, I remember it being better, but since this has been the first three seasons so far, that makes sense. But yeah, it's stupid. I just don't get why they would put in place such an idiotic policy.

I watched it and i expected something like this too happen. The first 3 seasons of voyager were not a complete disaster but were pretty lame at times. B&B certainly knew how to mess things up with voyager and they did the same again on enterprise.Congrats B&B you made the geek news!!!
I have always had respect for garret wang and i certainly do now, hope to meet him someday at a st convention.

That code talk for an actress having sour-grapes about having her thunder stolen by a another, arguably better actress. And since Jeri Ryan is a very striking actress who wore a striking costume, Mulgrew (and the other repressed Trektard idiots) attacked Jeri Ryan for being ridiculously sexy. Anyway all this brainless Jeri Ryan bashing has gotten very, very boring and very, very old.

I respect Mulgrew as an actress and she fails to realise the absurd fan flack directed at her as well.

Well Voyager was already down the toilet around it's second or third season, all thanks to mostly untalented hacks like Jeri Taylor, Rick Berman and Brannon Braga, with additional "help" from Paramount. The series had already "Jumped the Shark".

I wouldnt blame any of the crew for there roles in voyager, they were only doing there jobs in the parts to play, if anyone is to blame for the mess-ups its the writers and directors on there ideas of making these lame episodes.
As for the complaints and rumors of voyager characters going over the edge, its bound to happen in any series and movie in order to compete to see who does the best job. I dont *always* agree with alot of rumors and complaints from characters but everyone has there side of the story.
Im just glad voyager didnt turn into enterprise and get cancelled early.

- Yes, I do agree for the most part on that. I mean take a look at Garrett Wong. Just hearing that two hr intereview, I can really see how talented he is and how great Harry Kim could have been. But because of certain direction, he wasnt aloud to really shine in his talents.
