My guess is they'll be thrown in jail, might even be put to death, stuff like that.

Back in the Reagan years, one ex-farmer splashed pig blood all over the White House outer wall, and several older men set themselves on fire near the White House gates.
Didn't change a thing.

I fail to see how that is relevant to this demonstration for freedom.

I fail to see how a few students yelling, popping fireworks and burning photos will bring freedom to a country.

Well, it won't unilaterally do that, but just because it won't doesn't mean they shouldn't have done it. It's a symbol of individuals showing courage to express their wish for freedom and liberty, a noble deed which could result in greater numbers of people following suit.
