PostThu Nov 30, 2006 3:58 pm    New technology catches Hitler off guard

Quote:
New computer software that can read lips at almost any angle has helped make sense of one of the Second World War's lingering mysteries Hitler's home movies.

The technology allows the dialogue to be dubbed on to the silent films, many of them made by Eva Braun at Hitler's mountain retreat, the Berghof. With the new soundtrack, Hitler can be heard encouraging young children towards a life in the military, criticising even his closest henchmen and flirting with Braun.

Wow! I would love to see that...It's so facinating and so creepy at the same time.

isn't this technology a little bit dangerous? It could easily get abused

Might I ask how so? I don't think anyone trying to convey confidential information will say it near a video camera anymore. It does seem like a very useful tool for historical purposes though.

for example when you're shopping or something, there always are cameras, or in a lot of other places as well, like schools...there's this german word, "Privatsphre", that wouldn't exist anymore...so with other words: you could get supervised (right word?) all of the time

there are a lot of books which deal with a future world where people really can't do what they want anymore...this sounds just like one of these books

But is this any more invasive than having the camera's in the first place? Or how about people who know how to lip-read? It isn't impeading anyones ability to practice free will, so far it's only been applied in a historical context (as far as I know).
