I went to Fred Meyers, the grocery store, in Portland, and I went to the book section. I was there, and I saw absolutely NO Star Trek books! There were like 75 books in the sci-fi section, no Star Trek. I was almost in tears.

Yeah, I noticed outside of Borders or Barnes and Nobles, Star Trek books are rather scarce...

And even Barnes and Nobles are scarce on Star Trek Books...Oh well, it's all part of a dying franchise...I can't wait for it's come back...It's coming...soon...we just don't know when...

Really? There are tons of ST books in my B&B in Texas. I'm actually waiting for this continuation of a current DS9 series going on. I wanna find out what happens to the Dominion.

Yeah, the book stores around here don't have very many anymore. Sad really, there used to be SHELVES of it. Now, its a couple of half filled racks.

Well, the B&B here just opened up a new and larger store at the mall...I mean brand freakin' new, and I haven't been in it yet. So I don't know about there....
I mean, they had maybe 3 or 4 shelves...but nothing spectacularly large though...

True, true. It's a shame because given the chance, they can make some decent good ST books.
VOY2004, you think this is the result of less demand on ST?

Funny thing, the books were scaled back on releases, and supposedly, nothing to do with the demaind, or the 'trouble' trek is in.

Eh, who am I to say that this is because of Trek's current status....but that's just what I have been observing...Places like B&B and Waldenbooks carry less and less Star Trek books the longer Trek is in this lull...So, I dunno...it's just what I've been observing...
And Pocket Books can say whatever they want about them "not releasing" and such due to this lull or whatever...lol. Anybody can say anything...what matters is the truth backing their statements...or lack thereof.

The sad thing is, despite not having much money, you know the core reason I don't get any trek books lately? I simply can't find them anywheres.

The only books I really read are Voyager...and they don't have many books coming out at all...the last book that came out for them was String Theory...and I unfortunately haven't even finished Chapter 1 of book 2 yet...lol...
But ya, I'd buy more Trek books if they were out...They TOTALLY need to update the freakin' Star Trek Encyclopedia though!

Oh really? Where and when did you read that? That's just retarded...Although understandable b/c there's a TON of info from where they left off to put in there...but if they would have kept up with it in the first place, it wouldn't be that bad...

Seriously! I really want to read more DS9. I have yet to read Left Hand of Destiny Book 2, but I threw it in my bag today to read on the road trip I am taking, but then again, I have been meaning to read it for months now.

It''s really sad. I've noticed the same thing in the bookshop where I buy my SF-books. There used to be one big shelf with all sorts of Star trek books. Now they have the Star Trek books in a much smaller shelf where they also keep the Star Wars books. There's only half as many Star trek books as it used to be.
Star Trek seems to be in a downward spiral. No new Trek series leads to less interest among the fans, not so many fans are buying the books which means fewer published books and so on. Still there are a lot of interest for Trek, at least when you look at the internet.
I must also state that I feel a bit let down by Pocket Books and Paramount. Star Trek is celebrating its 40th anniversary this year and what do they do? Nothing! No encyclopedia, no anniversary books, no movie, no new series, nothing. No wonder that even the fans are giving up. Not to mention those who run the bookshops.
What Star Trek needs are new people in charge for the whole thing. People with ideas!
Still I believe that there is a market for Star Trek products and especially the books. Is there anyone out there who have any statistics about how the different "relaunch" books are selling?

You do have a point, it's the 40th anniversery, and not much was done for it, a couple games (Which keep getting delayed), a remastering of TOS (which not everyone can see ). Kind of disapointing, really.

Oh ya...I think the biggest thing done for Trek's big 40 was the ALREADY annually big Convention in Vegas...but that one is as I said, ANNUAL, and already big anyway...sad
