I'm a Christian(Catholic) and think we should probably get rid of this rule. It probably will distract some soldiers, not to mention I bet some soldiers will attack the Gay soldiers. It will be rough at first, but maybe after some time, people will accept it and this rule is gone.

Exactly the same with me. I'm a Catholic - pretty devout, I can now say - and yet I think, as well, that they should get rid of this policy. It's wrong and discriminatory.

The proof is in how he's voted. He tried to amend the constitution to define marriage. Thats much bigger than making a law. And he will veto this. I know it. If he doesn't, it will drastically change my opinion of him. And yeah he's a christian...so what?

So he wanted a constitutional amendment to protect marriage? Whoa. I guess you're right. He's got to be homophobe, no way around it!

People throw out the homophobic and racist card too often now. I don't believe for 1 second he is homophobic, i expect he knows some gay people.

So what? In another topic, you claimed that he was trying to usher in some era of Christian supremacy in America and that everyone was oppressed...

I'm not calling Dubya a homophobe, however, I will say that he does allow his religion to get in the way of politics a little too often.

I know that this is a bit off topic, but, Bush, Sr. once called atheists unpatriotic and said that the government shouldn't consider them citizens. So...I hope that Dubya isn't the same...cause...yeah...

Anyways, I agree with Founder, LB, RM, and pretty much everyone else. The "Don't Ask, Don't Tell" thing is discriminatory and should be abolished. I mean, things like that shouldn't even matter when it comes to defending the country. I don't care if your purple or green, gay or straight, Muslim or Christian, etc. when it comes to the military.

Mary Cheney (Dick Cheney's daughter), for instance.

And La Forge, everyone here grees that this policy should be overturned.

No...I was arguing that his policies social policies were too close to those of the Christian Right.

And how is that a problem if the ideas of the "Christian Right" are part of his personal opinions? We know when we elect a person to office that he's likely to do things based on his opinions, and it just so happens that the president's personal opinions are very much shaped by his faith, and is that so wrong? No, it's not.

He's restricting their rights. Homophobe isn't the best word, but I don't know another way to say. And don't give me that junk about protecting marriage, or protecting its sanctity. The divorce rate in this country is 50%! Married people are now in the minority. Marriage is no longer sacred.

Last question....how does affect you if my gay neighbor three doors down decides to wed his partner?

The topic at hand is "Don't ask Don't tell", not gay "marriage", divorce, or marriage's state in our culture. Stay on topic or don't post. Also, respect other people's beliefs. You can disagree and still be respectful.
