GOP senators resurrect Lott to No. 2 post

Senate Republicans yesterday returned Senator Trent Lott of Mississippi to a post in Senate leadership, turning to an old hand who they hope will take them in a new direction after a disastrous election for the GOP.

The political resurrection occurred nearly four years after Lott made an offhand, racially insensitive remark at a reception for a retiring senator, leading colleagues to oust him from the Republicans' top job in the Senate. When Congress reconvenes in January, Lott will serve as minority whip -- the number two position -- under GOP leader Mitch McConnell of Kentucky.

I'm sorry to see the Dems choose the more sensible candidate, lol, but I'm glad the GOP chose Lott to lead them in the Senate.

I'm glad the Dems chose the more sensible candidate and equally glad that the Reps chose Lott who has zero credility.

I don't think he has zero credibility. I'm glad Lott's the Whip. Plus he's the Whip, not the Leader, and the Whip doesn't do much special publicly.

How so, especially considering he's the Whip, not the leader?
