PATRICK! That is such a rockin topic, why would you leave it? You ever check www.foresight.org for info? They have hordes of info on stuff... everything... about nanotechnology. Something you might want to augment, though, there's tons on the effects economically/socially/politically (in relation to weapons, wars, etc) to deal with nanotech. That's a little broader, probably a little more info on that kind of thing, where the paper is so long. Medical nanotech is huge, too... and industrial nanotech, materials, space stuff... oh, the possibilities.

Does anyone know the clinical term for an Oedipus Complex or what a reverse-Electra complex is called (like one of a father to daughter instead of daughter to father)?

I've always just known it as the Oedipus Complex and the Electra Complex in regards to psychoanalysis. I haven't known any other names.

I'm 99% sure those are the clinical terms. We've been discussing them in my sociology/anthropology class and I haven't heard any other term for them.

Yeah, that's what I thoughjt too, but I can't find either of them in the DSM-IV to cite it as a clinical disorder... I guess maybe it isn't quite a clinical disorder. I found a really great journal on it though, talking about how the Oedipus Complex shifts from Oedipus and Jocasta to Oedipus and Antigone.... which was really more the disorder I was trying to find out about. So... I'll just go with that.

I don't know for sure, but I'd assume more opportuities. America has a higher GDP and poverty is less common, there are also more jobs. So probably just they wanted an overall better economic situation.

But again, it's just a guess looking at the overall economoic situation in South America.

I agree with TrekkieMage.
Contrary to its name, after WW II Puerto Rico [rich port] was one of the poorest countries in the world, owing to a weak economy and extremely high birth rate.
Due to the country's peculiar political status* it is no problem for Puerto Ricans to emigrate to the US.
Every PR citizen owns full US-citizenship including an US passport => no greencard necessary for them => employers prefer them over other foreigners as there's far less red tape.

For more information on the subject see wikipedia entry on Puerto Rico

*Some claim it is actually US territory, others count it as an individual, yet associated state. There was a poll in 1951 about the political status, but as being an independent country was not a choice in that poll, it was not really a fair matter IMHO. People had as much of a choice as you'd have if a gangster asked you "would you prefer me to shoot or stab you?"
Disclaimer: I'm not implying that the US-government did or does consist of gangsters (at least not in a higher percentage than the governments of most other states ). I am merely using an example to illustrate how the (imo unfair) poll worked, giving them the choice between two variations of the same thing but depriving them from a real alternative
