Well, I'm sorry about Colorado. In Michigan, everything went smoothly, except for affirmitive action. But, for America as a whole? I can only see our security getting better.
I mean, the War is going to take a drastic turn for the better, of which I'm positive (a.k.a. end I hope, so we stop making enemies out of the entire world). And, Rumsfeld's gone, all the better.
I mean...this is good. Two more years. Then, we'll have a Democratic President, too. Heh.

Two years of insecurity, subpoenas(sp?), investigations, NSA wiretapping removal, no border security action... Yeah, real great.
I couldn't disagree with you more, but my mundane, monotonous rhetoric is going to get annoying, so I'm done for the night.
God help us all.

The thing is, our system was not designed to have one party in control - Democrat or Republican. Especially in a time of war. We need accountablity more than anything right now, and a balanced system.

I mean...with the Dems. in power, that America is gonna leave Iraq (I hope...I really hope), stay the hell outta other country's business, give power to the people, tax-cuts for those who deserve it (the working class) stop making enemies out of the world and our allies included, and, most importantly of all, keep that half-brained meatloaf lovin' oil drilling fool in check.
That's what I think. But, like you, the rhetoric is getting old. This is good for America and as TrekkieMage (another Dem...What a relief! ) the world is not going to end.

I know it wasn't designed for it, but I don't care whether it was or not. This is serious, and I'm not in the mood for joking or teasing about it. Seriously. I have genuine concerns about the safety and security of this country. I really do.

Well, I highly doubt we're going to have an immediate withdrawl, Congress is not in direct control of the troops. And I believe the Dems have a more immediate list they want to accomplish. Two of the ones I know of (that they're going to try and pass in the first 100 hours) are lowering interest rates for student loans, and lowering MD tuition rates for college.
Also, I don't like to think of myself as a Dem, I really try and have moderate views and a lot of the more extreme Dems irk me just as much as the extreme Republicans. I like cadidates like Webb who are very centered.

And I think those concerns are unfounded.
I was far more concerned by the way that science was being abused for policy. Sex education, global warming, and nutritional information have been totally abused by this adminstration. I'm glad that they'll be held accountable, finally.

The Dems may have differnt...ideas. I hardly daoubt they are about to let this country get attacked or anything. If they do, next election they loose, plain and simple.
All said and done, you cannot just pull out of these areas now, what you can do is scale things back. And of course, not go into other countries.
Like TM, said, its not the Pary Per Se, its the extream people. Frankly at this point, I wouldn't call my self Dem or Repub. I voted Repub, becuse the Dems that be, here? They like to spend.

I'm not just talking about Iraq. But I got back from a two-hour debate an hour ago. I'm kinda politically tired out, so I'm out for the night.

Ugh. As it appears the Dems have Congress, I am not too happy. The best I can hope for is they won't get anything done, and in two years, people will reelect Republicans. People keep talking about holding Bush accountable? For what, did he commit a crime? Ugh.
And stem cells? Which kind? Adult stem cells that have provided all the progress in the field, or embryonic ones which no real progress has been made from. There are two different kinds, so be specific.

Please provide proof if you're going to make grandiose claims.
As for the election results, I'm a Republican, but I'm not too bothered with this. I think there needs to be change personally. The Dem. do nothing but complain and whine. Now, we'll see if they'll actually solve all of these problems. If they solve them, great. It's the end of a myriad of problems. If they don't? I'll ridicule them, as will other Republicans and moderates. Essentially, it's a win win.

Well said, Founder. Well said. If they think they can do better? There is now a chance to prove it. I say try it! If they suck? Well, then we'll know the truth, won't we?

Accountable as in fully explaining their actions and having to provide real evidence before things are passed. Since stem cell have been brought up, I'll use that.
Bush said - very openly - that there were currently 60 line of usable stem cells. Bull. There are about 15 or so.
Quote: |
At present, approximately 15 human embryonic stem-cell lines are publicly available, and they vary considerably in their usefulness for research and the extent of their characterization |
Source: New England Journal of Medicine
Also, both adult and embryonic stem cells are important. Embryonic stem cells happen to be more useful. Also, this August they figured out how to remove a single cell from an embryo (at the 8-cell stage, when it's totipotent, or can make every cell in the human body) without damaging the embryo.
Also, the embryonic stem cell lines *should* be immortal once we figure them out. BUT. We haven't figured them all the way out yet.
Those embryos used for science are given with the consent of the parents and would otherwise be incinerated. Basically, the embryo would die no matter what happened, just if science got it, it could save lives.
That's the kind of crap that the adminstration hasn't been accountable for. Adult stem cells are much less useful than embryonic ones. If we use adult stem cells, we'd have to learn how to revert the cell to a truely embryonic sate in order to use it. But they don't tell us that.

The best thing about having the senate now is that the GOP have very little chance of taking it back in 2008.
The republicans will be defending 21 seats and the Dems defending 10. 5 of which are considered "safe" seats.

We'll see, a lot can happen between now and 2008. However, I have a very good feeling about the next two years

Another spot of good news for Dems.
We now have Majority of in the governors and state houses. Meaning democrats control gerrymandering!
Which means the republican leaning districts will all be gerrymandered to favour democrats.
Even though Gerrymandering is wrong.

Yup, on all fronts. I really wish they'd just undo the gerrymandering that's been done and then pass a law that'll stop it.
On a slightly different note, this is a pretty good article on why Allen lost. I found it really quite accurate...

They only redisterict after the 10-year census, I believe, so it won't make a difference until 2011.
But there is very little good that came from this election, for the Republicans, Colorado, and America. It's sad, it really is. One can only hope that things are better next round.
I'm especially sad today to see Allen, a superb statesman, gone.

Allen made an idiot out of himself during this campaign, I think he ticked a lot of people off.
