At the risk of having to leave the country, I'd say I thought Ezri was bland and didn't really do much for the climax of the Dominion War. I'd say it would have been better to kill her off in Season 1, and have Jadzia as the new host. And I felt so sorry for Worf!

While she not have been handled very well and it was clumsy at teh beginning, I actually like the development of Dax getting a new host during the series especailly after all the talk during the show of all the different hosts. I dont want to give the writing staff as much credit as to say that they were trying to put the audience into as much disorientation as it was for the rest of the crew becasue I dont like to think that anyone is quite that intentionally clever, but all in all, I think it was handled pretty well and flowed at an acceptible pace....I particualrly liked the episode where she was interacting with her past host that became a homicidal maniac

I voted NO since I don't think she made much of a difference, but was in no way able to live up to Jadzia.
Since she didn't make much of a difference she didn't ruin season 7.
But htinking about it I can't help imgining how hard it must be to become part of succesful cult series knowing full well that you only hae 1 season to make an impact and be accepted by the fans.
The poor woman sure was cute but she really did have a difficult job.

No i don't think she did. I loved Jadzia and i thought ezri was just amazing, specially to be able to fill Dax's shoes. Most of Season 7 was about strong character plots and Ezri fitted into that theme perfectly. I cant imagine the last season without her.
Plus the fact that Jadzias death was so low key that i was truely an amazing idea to go out, no matter how frustrating.

Season 7 was phenomenal. Would it have been better with Jadzia...? Most certainly. I was wanting to see her BABY. If Worf had had a child with her, that would've been an amazing final season. Even if it was in the last episode. It would've made me much happier if Jadzia was there, but she wasn't. While Ezri didn't ruin anything, she didn't add anything for me.

I thought Ezri's character was rather interesting because her confusion showed what could happen when a Trill host was joined without being properly prepared. Her character also showed a bit more of the discrepancy of being so young, yet being joined to this creature that was so much older and wiser. It's too bad the show ended only a year after we met Ezri, as I think it would have been interesting to watch her come to embrace Dax as a part of her and to have her mature into a more confident individual.

Indeed.
She didn't ruin it, the uiniquness of the Trills allowed a part of Jadzia to be there. Season 7 would have been weird with out a Dax there. I agree though, Jadzia would have been nice, Ezri was still good, though.

If Jadzia had been allowed to have a kid, that would have probably changed Voyager's outcome with B'Elanna and Tom, as repetition would not look creative. Ezri added a unique touch to DS9, and by no means ruined the 7th season, however, the beginning of the season did take a bit of getting used to , both her in the new role, and viewers watching the show. It did seem a bit much the amount of time Ezri got confused with her own identity. I understand that that's what she was going through, but it seemes like a broken record, when, every episode she was talking about herself in the 1st through 3rd persons and apologizing about it. After the bumpy start though, she made a nice addition, both character-wise, and looks-wise.

I hated that Jadzia left right near the end of the season. She should have stayed til the end!Yeah woulda loved to see a trill/klingon baby!
I think Ezri was ok but did not fill Jadzias shoes at all they were too large for her!!!!
Her quirky character was interesting but annoying at the same time!Jadzia was the best character besides Worf on that show!

I don't know, I haven't seen enough of season seven to judge. But I will be seeing more of DS9--I'll be back for this question.

Anyone who lets a less interesting Dax ruin one of the greatest Trek seasons for her/him must have a self-destructive streak.
Jadzia was getting better and better. She started as personality-free as they all did really, and was actually sort of the opposite of the bohemian type she turned into.
Babies do a lot of damage to shows. Look at Xena. If TF had signed for another year, the talk of a baby would never have started. That was just to increase the level of tragedy when she died. Anytime a main character is pregnant, expect her to die or for the show to nearly be over.

i totally dont think ezri ruined DS9...she was a totally different person than Jadzia, but that comes with a new character....it was kind of fun to have someone who was kind of scares, and shy on DS9 it switched things up a bit

I am agreeing with most here she did not add much but she certainly did not ruin the last season.
I think theymade a mistake however in returning the Dax character to DS9 permanently after the first few episodes as I feel that would of been a good way to move the character on.
I also think many fans do not realise that it was Terry Farrell who wanted to move on and do something different (which is fair enough, but an intelligent person should be able to realise that you are a part of something good and that the grass is not always greener on the other side), therefore forcing the wirters and creators to come up with a story arc.
Some people just do not know what they have until it is gone.

I thought Ezri coming into it was great. I preffered her to Jadzia and was much nicer to look at. I think its a shame she was only in it for one season and i dont think it ruin the final season at all.

How does the introduction of a single character ruin an entire season?
I prefered Jadzia much more, but I don't think Ezri was bad. The only problem with the latter was that she never really got to develop as a character.
One could argue that she did take a little bit away from season 7 because they tried to shoehorn several episodes that revolved around her in an attempt to give her as much development in little time as they could.

I really don't like absolutist polls, yes or no, but I answered yes because I think the actress that played Ezri needed a few more lessons before being thrust into a cast that had been together for so long. Also, the marriage of Jadzia and Worf added so much to the flavor of the show, that to have him lose her was disappointing to say the least.

personally, as much as i liked jadzia, she annoyed me at times. i never liked episodes that centered around her. Ezri was kind of refreshing to me. something new. plus, i thought she was better looking anyway.

I read Terri Farrell wanted to leave the show, that's why they brought in Ezri. While I liked Jadzia much, once someone decides to leave the show that's that. She must have had good reasons, but it's also true that Jadzia was the only role she was internationally famous for, so my personal opinion is she made a kinda hasty decision. But if it worked for her... So Ezri's arrival didn't ruin anything, it wasn't her who made Jadzia go, she just filled in the vacuum. Quark said something like "When you thought things couldn't get more interesting..." when she arrived and I agree with him, while I liked the Jadzia character a lot, it was quite an interesting turn of events to have a completely new personality melt into the old one, it was nicely done. And since we have to choose between Ezri being there or just a vacuum where Jadzia had been, I think the answer is obvious.

The question as asked is bound for a no response.
Like many others I don't think she was better than Jadzia. But ruining the show? That is too strong a statement.
