Kira is definitely not hot! But I think she is a very strong character with a good heart, who's just a little volitile coz she's had it rough in life. although I never really liked to watch DS9 much either.......

Too bad about her and Odo though ... I wish the writers wouldn't have made the ending so sad on her part ...

Kira is a dog. She walks like she rode too many horses. The best women are on Voyager.
But, I will say that Ezri is such a doll. DS9 is lucky to have her.

- I don't agree. I think O'Brian was.
I like Kira, but I don't think the actress is the greatest.

I loved Kira, along with Quark and Odo. Ezri was weakest- O'Brien was great!

Kira was beautiful, but the problem is, earlier on they made her look really manish. I guess it was too reflect her childhood and how she was raised to be tough.
She was a great character, just like all DS9 characters. I like the evolution of her character. She went from being a hate filled person, not wanting to have anything to do with Starfleet to letting go of her hate and having friends amongst Starfleet.
Her love story with Odo tragically ended...

Indeed, she was a good character. Later on.
I didn't really like her at first, she was smug, and had an attitude. Granted, I know what she has gone though, but she had the additude that she worked on her own, and that the Bajorans drove the carddies away themselves.
Aside from that, by the end of the series, she was one of the best trek chars ever, let alone one of the best of the series.

Kira was a great character, but I hated the short hair. She was best in Seasons 1, 6 and 7. It was a great idea to put her with Odo- and see him go all goeey- har har har- over her. Check out my best DS9 lovestory post

Well, gee, thanks for that. I guess you wouldn't be bidding much for her in a Cardassian comfort-girl auction.
I suppose she was meant to be irritating at first, so that we could warm up to her gradually as they developed and thawed out her character later. I got to grudgingly like her a bit, then more, then by the end I loved the character. I love how there's nothing about her views or obsessions or outlook or politics that specifically says "female", yet she's never unfemale at all. Meaning, she takes part in the harsh, physical world completely, without it seeming forced as it does with other TV characters. Other shows have frail, skinny model types throwing criminals into jail cells... all the tough talk is ridiculous and contrived. Even though NV is small, you still believe it all.
It helps to have that cool Starfleet move where you take both hands, form a big fist, then slam into the other guy with all the force of your entire body. That does make it look as if a small person could really have an impact. But it's the writing and acting, mainly. I love Visitor's habit of tilting her head violently to one side and back again, when she's really worked up and making a point.
That original costume was meant to cover her very narrow shoulders, apparently. I really like the seasons 4-6 suit. So did she apparently. Funny how no one screams "bimbo" in response to it, as they do with Seven. You just can't with Kira. She has too much obvious credibility (though I think Seven does too). But the suit was just as clingy as Seven's. I suppose two other factors could be at play though.

- Not me, I loved it. Their aren't many woman out there that can pull short hair off like that. I didn't like her longer hair (season 1 & 7). I also don't think she would look good with long hair - doesn't suit the character.

- I read that O/K was a fluke. Which started with a response of Odo's from when Kira tells him that she's in love with Bareil. I also read that both actors did not want the characters to get together.

- I don't know. I think it was more that she grew as an actress more through the later seasons of the show.

I didnt think to much of kiras character on ds9, she went way to far in getting her way on everything and thinking of herself attitude and it got her into trouble on many occasions. I couldnt stand anything that kira was involved in including the bajorian religion (prophet worshiping) it was a real turn-to-the-next-channel must for me. I must credit her for getting through the entire 7 seasons without her role getting dismissed.
I do like her better in the pc game ds9-the fallen at least you can fight with her, rather then hear her argue and bore you to death.

I think people consider her a weak first officer because she was not in Starfleet but DS9 of course being on a space station needed a fresh approach
