Mon Sep 25, 2006 1:12 pm TMP- Worst film? |
|
I couldnt bear it. Endless FX, a bad plot, not much dialogue. Sorry, my verdict is 'Rubbish'. Anyone agree?

Travelling to the center of the galaxy...a trip made in in a matter of hours, yet something that took Voyager at least 4 seasons to do.

It's not my favorit, but it's decent. If it was kept as a TV seris plot, it might have been better recived.

I think you're right. It was supposed to be the premier of Phase II I believe. It's just too blah to be a movie, and I think they spent too much effort on the Special Effects and not enough time on the important stuff...like the plot line.

Well, I haven't seen in it forever. It's actually the only one I don't own on DVD special edition. I don't really like it as much as pretty much any of them, but Search For Spock wasn't that good either. It was good, because it was Star Trek, but then again, it wasn't that good.

Star Trek: The Motion Picture was the most original and unique Star Trek movie ever made! |
I liked the plot, but it put in a movie what should have been in an episode or maybe a two-parter stretching it.I think TWOK should have been the first OS film. I think Paramount were stretching their legs a bit with TMP after working on Phase II and other than that being asleep since The animated sereies!

Does anyone else think that V'Ger and Nomad were a little too similar? The only difference is that V'Ger made a probe that looked like a humanoid.
It's actually kind of a shame they killed I'leia, since the Deltans are a race that was never developed further by the series. I actually read some of the story lines for Phase II, where they were going to develop her character further. Perhaps some subsequent series will have a Deltan.

In Undisc Count, the novel, Ra-ghoratreii (the Fed president) was listed as a Deltan, although another source says he was Efrosian. According to Articles of The Fed. the Deltans and the Carreans hate each other, but I dont think thats canon.

I quite agree with Lord Borg. STTMP is far from being perfect: several scenes are too long, the color choice is depressing (no warm colors in this movie, only cold ones: light blue, white, light yellow... black), some events seem to have been forced to fit into the plot (Spock leaving his native planet because he felt he was out of place there since he had suddenly grown aware that he had failed his test to reach to Koolinar). But, as far as being the worst trek film... no, not in my opinion.

Star Trek V is the WORST Star Trek films. Star Trek I is the second worst.
Star Trek V had the highest budget out of the first 5 films but it was plauged by a number of problems. The Special effects team that had worked on the previous films (and made wrath of khan look brillian) was working on the new Indiana Jones movie so a completely new team that had never worked on star trek before was brought it. That why the effects of the film are appauling.
Also Leonard Nimoy and William Shatner had agreed to the series of films IF they both had equal contracts. Nimoy was a director at the time and they let him direct Star Trek III. Because of there equal contracts Shatner decided to take advantage of this and got to direct the 5th film. Another major reason why the film was so bad.

I'm not making excuses for Trek but The Motion Picture was frought with all sorts of starts and stops, and they still came out with a pretty good movie. It was definitely the most cerebral of the lot so maybe a lot just don't get it, kinda like 2001. If I had to point the finger at the worst of the bunch I would finger Final Frontier first.

Love it and yet in bores me stupid. I would love a directors cut where the special effects are trimmed down to keep the story moving.
I have both the 6 movie box set and the directors cut the directors cut is far greater yet still ahem dull.

Having just finished watching star trek voyager
Takes A Holiday, it's like the first three stories were a slow climb up a steep gradient, where here we crested the hill and start tobones dvd
make a rapid descent. Oh...hang on, its Dead Man's Curve up a head. Get those body bags ready!
There are a number of major spoilers in this piece, the wire 1-5 dvd
so if you haven't seen it yet I'd hold offmonk dvd
reading my review until you have, becauseDexter dvd boxset
this episode is pivotal for somestar trek voyager dvd
characters.
The irony of the holiday that Dexterstar trek voyager complete series
takes is that he's not the one on vacation, Entourage dvd
it's Rita and the children, and his holiday is to remain at home for three days. Time to kill is the expression people use, but for Dexter the meaning is more literal
