Watching the episodes is a heck of a lot easier than reading the books. Some people can roll through the books one after another. I personally love Star Trek books. But I imagine that the number of viewers outweigh the number of readers exponentially.

Yeah, people don't seem to go for the books so much. I own about 400 books myself, but I don't own any of the recent ones at all, I'm on a temporary hiatus I suppose.

Since Enterprise ended, there don't appear to be as many new books as there were. I don't know about anyone else, but I only read Star Trek books occasionally now, concentrating on non fiction mainly.

The publishing of books and my reading them have definately slowed recently. Maybe it's b/c the ending of the series sort of put a finality on the storylines, and it's hard to jump back into it. And for new book series, it's gonna take sometime to get into the swing of things, and they will never be the same as a series that was on-screen.

Yes, the DS9 relaunch are amazing. I am very happy with that storyline. I never really liked New Frontier, but it seems to be quite popular among other readers.

Completely agree with the DS9 relaunch being amazing. I really need to find the new books and get hold of them.
New Frontier I also like. Getting a set of books 1-10 helped though

As for the books, the publisher has recently scalled back the number of books that come out each month, and how often. This supposedly has 'nothing' to do with the poor ratings of enterprise, or the troubles trek has faced recently.

It's a shame. The books are worth more respect than being neglected by so many. There are many books which are better than some of the TV episodes.

Definitely.And I love the ones that expand on TV episodes- what happened after, etc. The comics can be fantastic too, check out Ill Wind or The Battle Within- jst because their comics doesnt mean they're trash

We who read books are a species that's threatened by extinction. Thanks to places like this - reservations for intellectuals - we have a chance to survive, meet others who think like ourselves, mate and pass on our reading genes to the next generation

personally, I prefer the books over the various series'. In books so many things are possible that are difficult or even impossible to create in a film. Plus: when it gets boring you can simply jump to the next chapter, something you can't do on TV. If you fall asleep over a book you don't miss the end and wonder till the re-run how the crew got safely out of the trouble they were in when you dozed off.
And - the best of all - books have no advertizing breaks

With DVD's, I no longer have those problems .
Books are alright, I don't read as often as I'd like to, I wish I could get an E-Book, that could be compatible with MS reader, I recently got some 'books' (Star trek!) in that format, and reading on the computer is just not the same .

I have to admit that reading the books is much easier when you don't have to cart your computer/laptop around, and, with the exception of a few hardcovers, significantly lighter...but I would still prefer to watch an episode.

I bought the Sony eBook Reader. It's easy on the eyes. The screen makes the page you are reading look like the page of a paperback book. There's really very little glare and you can read the book from almost any angle. I tend to read books at work since watching STV Episodes on my computer is not exactly Kosher at work, so I spend my free time reading.

HEH, one reason I'd like it is well...lack of phyisical space for a book . Not to mention being able to mark my spot easier, and then theres storage... I don't have a problem with real books, but if I had the reader, perhaps I'd beable to read more often (And in comfortible spots to!)
