Think about it. In every episode, they have no armour when they beam doen to unknown planets, bright uniforms, never any pattern enhancers. I know the feds are nonmilitarized, but still... If i was captain, Id order personal forcefields, phasers, pattern enhancers and black uniforms. Also, bridge consoles always blow up in crew's faces- can't they put shields round them. And why does Captain never have any seatbelts- neither does anyone else, come to that. I am in Scouts and say 'be prepared!'

Hey! For the record, Phasers are ALWAYS part of a standard away mission to most ANY place...

You covered it pretty well when you said their non milterized. It wouldn't look good when you supposedly have peacful intentions, but you beam down with enough gear to occupy the planet, or station etc...
As for shieldied consols...HUH? That'd waste time and recources, it would also interfear with the normal operation.

In the DVD extras of Star Trek: Nemesis, we see them installing seat-belts at the end of the movie in a deleted scene. Probably would have saved a few lives had they thought about it before that. Voyager certainly would have been different had so many people not died when they got flung around the ship (aka: Helm officer and first officer and chief engineer).
The consoles really shouldn't explode so often. They are just compute interfaces...why does so much energy run behind then?
And as someone else said, away missions currently have a reasonable compromise between safety and courtesy.

Seat belts? Tell me, would YOU want to be strapped down in front of a console that seems to always explode during a battle? I think not...

Actually I don't think that all of the away missions required phasers. I'll go through tonight and watch for episodes without them.

i would say Black suits are a bit intimidiating for alien species, they come in peace you know. same thig oges fro to amny technological gadets,
I mean, look at the SG-1 team from stargate, they always enter the Stargate with Automated weapons and Camouflage suits, they sure got numoreous unfriendly welcomes because of that.

Wait...before you take my words out of context...I said "Phasers are required to go ON an away mission. Not that they were always USED them. Standard Starfleet Protocol requires phasers to on the person. That doesn't always mean they use them...

So what, they wear camouflage suits...I highly doubt that their "unfriendly welcomes" was because of their uniforms...Their weapons, maybe. But like traveling through the gate is to a Starfleet Away Mission, you're not gonna go unarmed. That's just retarded...
But even then, if they got unfriendly welcomes, I get the feeling they were gonna be unfriendly welcomes WITHOUT their weapons...It just depends on the nature of the people...

Why do we auto-assume that black is intimidating- for other species, yellow might be. Even on our planet there are cultures that nod their heads for 'no' and shake for 'yes'!
