Umi shrugged at this.

"I figured I'd explore a bit. Go to my quarters, check that out. Wait for a few other crewmembers to appear. Maybe check out the holodeck. What about you?"

"Possibly go to the bridge and sit in the Captain's chair. That's one thing I'll miss doing. I loved being in Command,just made too many mistakes to do it again, in my opinion."

"Be my guest. I'm not requiring that chair til we actually shove off."

Umi studied Kate for a few moments, remaining silent as she swept her dark eyes up and down Kate's countenance and features, memorizing the woman.

"I just like knowing my crew members. I'm just memorizing. It's a bad habit of mine, I guess. But the good news is, twenty years from now I will remember EXACTLY what you looked like today."

"Every one of my senior officers and most of my other officers as well. It's a cool little talent and a curse all at the same time."

"How is it a curse? I only see the good in it. Just like if you got robbed and asked to identify the person,you'd have no problem doing it."

With that,Kate got up and headed towards the bridge. When she arrived.she sat right in the Captain's chair. When she sat,she sighed,enjoying the comfort. She then looked at what would be her post. It didn't look quite as comfortable. She rested her eyes and then eventually fell asleep.

USS Skylark, Transporter Room 1

As Syd dematerialized on the Transporter padd he held all his belongings in either hand. Ah, the Skylark, its been some time Syd knew most of the crew from the academy and he was very excited to see everyone.

Syd exited the transporter room and proceeded to his quarters.

Bridge

Kate was still sleeping on the bridge, in the Captain's chair, when the computer came on to announce the arrival of Lt.Comm. Syd. Josi just sat in the chair. She never wanted to leave it again.

Syd proceeded to put down his things and organize them in his quarters. Knowing that the Captain would like to hear from here newchief of security Syd quickly got his things together.

Umi listened quickly as a man named Syd's voice came through. She tapped her combadge quickly.

Umi continued unpacking and putting things away as she listened for his response.

Bridge

Kate finally got up after a few hours. She didn't want to fall asleep again and then have the Captain wake her during a mission. She went back to her quarters to unpack.

Second Officers quarters

When Kate arrived in her quarters,she noticed all her stuff was all over her bed. She then remembered she put it there earlier. She started to unpack while thinking how this mission would work out. As long as she didn't make any important decisions,they should be fine.

Josi heard the message and was shocked. She was the second officer,shouldn't the first officer be in the briefing instead? She then remembered that the first officer wasn't there yet.

Umi smiled to herself and nodded before finishing unpacking. She then sat down at her computer and started going through her notes and PADDs regarding their mission.

Kate finished unpacking and thought about the mission. She actually hadn't been told much,since she wasn't the Captain. She then noticed she had a message on her computer. It was from her boyfriend at home, Jack.

Kate,I know you just went onto the ship today,but I remember what happened last time you went on a mission twenty years ago. I can't help but think you won't be lucky enough to survive this time if the same thing happened. We weren't together last time and these five years have been great,but I don't want to take the risk. I'm sorry,but we're through.

Kate couldn't believe what she just read. She had planned on living with him the rest of her life and now this.

Sickbay

Dr. Tobias Xavier was happy the ship was still on the ground. His fear of space mostly overcome, some slight trepidation over his first voyage still lingered. He arrived on the ship moments ago and headed directly to sickbay to check out his new stomping grounds for the unforeseeable future. He began to look at his calendar and decided to begin his work. The Doctor asked the computer who had already reported onboard, and worked his schedule from there. Every crewmember required a pre-flight physical, the hard part would be getting them all in before takeoff. He made the following additions to his agenda:

Tomorrow's physicals:
0830 - Captain Motokishru
0930 - Commander Mulgrew
1030 - Chief of Security Syd
Admiral Spears' appointment will be at his discretion

The Doctor closed the program that was his planner and worked his way towards his quarters, where he would hopefully be able to unpack before he was called upon.
